Hi That is very true! Had a recent blip as I think I posted about and yes, I did feel it really shook my confidence in my recovery. I'm still waiting for my CBT referral (5 months later) - by the time it arrives - hopefully I'll be well on the way to recovery. Best wishes to you all out there, it is a very difficult illness and I find it so hard to believe there is so little support available to so many - which is why this web site is a fantastic resource. red teddy x

Hi I don't think my last post showed up - don't have the hang of posting properly yet! Had a bad day, as someone described it in an article I read - it's like having lots of nightmares going off inside your head without any control over them. Exactly right. There is an interesting article in Easy Living magazine this month about a woman who had severe post natal illness and took years to seek help - I don't know how she managed? I probably wouldn't have read this article 18 months - 2 years ago. Certainly wouldn't have understood it. :(The last year has given me a whole new take on so many things - not least mental health services! I have my first appointment for CBT next week - hoping that will help. Does anyone have any tips for diverting thoughts - know about the elastic band on wrist, counting backwards from 100 - any others, I'd be very grateful. Red Teddy

Hey Redteddy, the only other thing that I used to do was as soon as I could feel myself getting sucked into the thoughts was to look at the place around me, describe it to myself, spell the words of the things I could see....if i was driving or a passenger in a car I would make up words using the letters on the other cars numberplates, read road signs anything basically that would break that cycle of thoughts. Good luck with the cbt, it really helped me x

I would try to do hard math sums in my head e.g. 541 x 673 etc Controlled breathing ALWAYS calmed me down and got me out of my head too, usually resulting in me falling asleep lol! See our anxiety toolkit (link at top of the screen) for instructions on it Nat xxx

Hi I have physical symptoms now - have had for last 6 - 8 months to varying degrees -just wondered if anyone else had ever felt this. It is really hard to describe - no pain at all but "pressure" is the best word I can think of - sometimes it feels as if it is in my stomach - other times round my heart, makes me want to take deep breaths but I'm not breathless - if that makes sense? I have been to the doctors many times - I've had various cardiac investigations - echo cardiograph, week long monitors, ECG etc. All normal thankfully. However, this does not go away. Sometimes I think it is stress related, other times not but it is really keeping me back. Certainly did not have this before baby or during pregnancy. Would love to get some feedback from anyone who can throw some light on this one. red teddy

Hi Redteddy I too had a lot of physical symptoms caused by my pni...it is quite common. I had every test under the sun and they all came back as clear.....its a really difficult one but for me, as i've recovered and learned to relax more, the physical symptoms have slowly disappeared x

Hi Juppster
:)Thank you for your reply - the last few days have been much better to the point where I am realising that it must be anxiety related. I'd made a GP appointment last week when it was bad but have since cancelled. Hope it is away for good. Really appreciate this forum and the responses. So supportive!

Hi
This illness is a real roller coaster ride up down up down! Draining! But in time the good periods will get longer. Glad u feeling better.
I too was plagued with physical symptoms incl pressure sensations especially around the head. I do think they were anxiety induced too. Try looking up techniques to combat anxiety ie deep breathing etc. really does helpx
