Dairy-free finger food - 5 months

Hi,

My LO is 5 months and is now established on solids 3 times a day as we were advised to start early by the consultant due to her reflux and poor weight gain. They've diagnosed a dairy intolerance and I was trying to think of ideas to give her for finger food. Does anyone know if rusks have diary in them or if there are any vegan alternatives? She loves to put things in her mouth and I think that she'd love them if we could find some suitable for her.

Any other ideas? Also - when can she have chicken, lentils, fish and other meats introduced? There are jars that say from 4 months with them in there but I thought they should be 6 months? Anyone had any experiences to share?

I really don't remember weaning my first at all, must have just blotted it from my memory! ;D

one of the organic ranges do a dairy free rusk i think its either goodies or organix but you can get um at tescos. other finger foods could be cooked carrot sticks cucumber ripe pear or peach pasta? (though you would have to check this last one) were doing baby led weaning so im always on the lookout for more finger type foods if you get any good ones pass them along

I do not have a baby any longer and mine was OK as far as dairy but my brither and niece is intolerant to dairy and I am to milk a little and very milk product intolerant - this means I can have a little milk but not much and no cheese, yogurt or mild products like whey powder or whey proteins.

I was like this since weaning as I was fine on breast milk but as soon as my mum tried to introduce any other foods I was constantly sick and Diarrhea and reflux etc.

It is good that your child has been diagnosed now as I was not until I was an adult and endured a life time of symptoms - and illness and weight problems as I could not keep weight on me. But I am totally symptoms free now as long as I never eat what affects me.

The whey is a particular problem for me as they put it in everything and it is only mentioned in the small print of the ingredients - I have even found it in some salt and vinegar crisps!!

All I have ever been able to do is use soya milk instead of milk and eat no cheese, yogurt at all and read every last ingredient of everything before I put it in my mouth.

Sometimes they have milk products in things that you really do not expect them so it is important to look down the ingredients list to make sure as well as the obvious there is no mention of whey or milk or dairy proteins.

I am sorry I can not help you further as I have found it is a case of reading the ingredients as one product by one brand will be OK yet the same thing made by someone else is not, and sometimes they change ingredients on foods that were once OK - so I have to keep an eye out.

So I take my glasses and read everything before I buy it and in case I missed it read the packet again before I eat it.

Good luck with this - I know how difficult this can be but the good news is if the problem is intolerance once every food that causes it is eliminated from her diet for a couple of weeks she should be totally OK
