Have you just given her the brush to do it herself? Thats what we had to do with our LO and now she gets strangely excited about brushing her teeth

Hi,
My son was a nightmare to begin with, but now likes brushing his teeth. He currently has a musical toothbrush, which plays a tune when you apply pressure to the toothbrush. He LOVES it - he listens to Queens 'we will rock you' whilst brushing. I'm sure you can get ones with other songs.
Anything's worth a try! xx

She is a year old now and has loads of teeth...I'm worried that if i don't get her to brush her teeth whilst she is young that i will find it even harder the older she gets.
She loves music so may try that brush....although she may be a little small for it so may use it to get her used to a toothbrush.
Ok I'm going to keep trying at this.....its got to get easier

Anita no worries hun. I brushed my eldest sons teeth until he was 3, and now he has fab whlte teeth and does a good job himself. One year old is still young, my LO is 21 months now and still doesn't brush his teeth, he just sucks on the tooth brush.
It does get easier.

Ok having harped on about how my LO loves cleaning her teeth, she has suddenly started completely refusing the toothbrush now! She is 14 months and I am reassured from the posts on here that her teeth won't completely rot and fall out in a week if she doesn't have her teeth cleaned every night so thank you! I have tried, 'cleaning mine' with her brush, making silly noises, giving her the brush etc but all she does is play with the bristles and try to clean my teeth! Will persevere and my mum reassures me that this is perhaps why we have two sets of teeth - to practice with the first ones and the main ones come through when they are old enough to understand about looking after them properly!!?? xx

Used to do it for her but she just clamps her mouth shut now after one lick of the toothpaste....so tried giving her the brush but like I say she just picks at the bristles..... xxx

Leave her to pick at the bristles. My LO just sucks the toothpaste off but recently at 2 and a bit has started to have a go at actually brushing them. Just let her get used to it on her own and dont push it to much, they come round eventually and as you pointed out - the baby teeth dont stay there forever anyway so no harm done!

I always gave the toothbrush to mine to chew on and then attempted to brush for them afterwards. The one rule I always worked by was nt to give them sweet stuff less than 2 hours before bed time and always a good drink of water after sugary stuff. The idea in that was to try and dilute it before it got too stuck to the teeth. Not sure if it helped but my daughter who is 4 and has a real sweet tooth still loves the visits to the dentist as she hasn't needed any work done yet ;D both mine got every 6 months and at their last check she had a small bit of decay just starting on one tooth so they painted this banana stuff on it to kill that bad bit off and stop it from getting any worse. I will tell you in November if it worked or not.
