Hi all,
just a quick question for any of you lovely ladies on here......
I currently have a Mirena coil fitted and its due to come out later this year but i feel this has had a huge impact on my hormonal state so am getting it out NOW!!
The question is which contraception to go for next...........
I don't want another baby but my hubby does so steralisation is out for the moment as if my hormonal state changes i might reconsider?! (big might!) so i need something that works pretty reliably and is better for me than the coil.
I am going to the dr's soon to discuss these thoughts/options but i just wondered what all you ladies think?
Thanks
Sarah.xxx

Hi SJ
Have you thought about the implant? a friend of mine has one and swears by it. I'm always terrible at remembering to take pills so something like that would probably be good for me too.

Hiya all,
Yes Giz i have thought about the implant and was due to get it fitted last year but the nurse i went to said that if i had the coil i'd be as well keeping it as its the same thing basically?? so she talked me out of it really!
H - it has only been recently that i've discovered how much it could be messing me up!! i'm amazed that there isn't more information available publicly about it!!
I've also concluded that having this coil has contributed big time to my PNI, i had the coil fitted after my 2nd and 3rd babies were born (both around the 6/8 week mark) and have never been right since. After i had my coil out the first time i improved significantly (although at the time i thought this was due to other factors!). After the birth of my 1st baby i was on the pill between his birth and the conception of my 2nd baby and i was perfectly fine - no hint of PNI?! It was only recently that someone pointed this out to me that i started to think about it and realised that all these factors tied in! so the coil is definately coming out!!
Still not sure what to do in the meantime though! hence the post on here..........Robbie suggested using condoms but as he wants another child.........maybe not the safest option!!
Any other suggestions gratefully read..........and thanks ladies for your input!.xxxx

Hi
My friend too had a mirena coil and worked out that it made her suicidal for about 3 days every month! She too had it removed.
Maybe the pill especially if it's worked for you. You're still young and you'd be in charge so the control would be there if you see what I mean.
Let us know how you get on at drs - it's something I should also be thinking about!

Hi sarajay
Be careful with Condoms, look what happened to me!!!!!!
Still I have tried everything but the coil, and nothing is really that good. We are having a similar debate in our house, except my husband is refusing to be snipped.

Isnt there a coil that is not based on hormones?? I forget what it is called.. i know there are two types of coil - one with hormones and i think one without.....

yeah there is the mirena coil which i have and then there is the copper coil (the old fashioned one!) although i don't think that is used much nowadays? this one doesn't have any hormones in it and is just used like a barrier as far as i understand........ so maybe i will look into that?
Thanks WG, had forgotten about that one! xxx

no worries - think i might look into it myself - not certain about this condom business but dont want any hormones raging around my body.. Perhaps i will wait and see how you get on as like a guinea pig first... lol (only joking) xx

If you can remember to take it then I highly recommend the pill....but you might need to try a few til you find one that suits you, one in particular made me mental (seriously mental a few day a month) but the one i'm on just now is fine (Cilest) suits me fine, I take it with my prozac every morning and it's all good.. my 3 yr old asked what my pills were for the other day 'well one's so I don't have any more babies, and the other is so the babies I have don't drive me crazy!' Thought that was quite honest!! xx

Good answer caterina, that cracked me up!
After much consideration and some advice from WG I came off my pill. I was terrible, I had a huge blip and since coming off have bn soooo much better. Admitedly times are a bit sketchy jst now. I had a mirena coil, after my 2nd, i got it removed due it displacement. But after having it removed I did see an improvment in my metal state so much so that we had another! I have tried a few pills, all a bit up and down but my issue being epileptic so my options are limited. I am no longer on meds for pni and have for now decided against contraception other than a condom. I have however looked at the ordinary coil. Its similar to a mirena, except doesnt have a hormone plant. Same idea expect it only prevent implantation, no hormones so no stopping menstrual cyle. So do have periods, one of the benefits of mirena. There is a bigger risk of falling pregnant on the coil than the mirena due to no hormones. But in reality its not any less effective than a condom. My advice, try the coil, thats my nxt step. When i get the time lol Sarah x

Will keep you all updated though.xxx
