Yes he showed me the raisin technique. Which is mindfulness. Where u feel the raisin in your mouth etc and concentrate on all your senses. To being your attention to the 'present' as opposed to the past (depression)or the future(anxiety)!
It seems good but today iv no raisins so il have to do it with chocolate!! Which apparently is a no no! Lol

I'm doing good. Had few days where could feel the anxiousness build up and still feel on edge and uptight. But otherwise pretty good. Can look after baby and myself while hubby working nights and although it can be tough...probably no tougher without PND!
Thanks Monica. Hey...did you start this forum up yourself?

Feeling confident in looking after ur baby alone is a huge milestone - well done. You really have come so farx
The founder of this site is a wonderful lady called Veritee who suffered from pni and wanted to help others . It was a real godsend to me and for first time I found other women who could relate to what I was going tox

I see. So did you ask her if could help then? Your very good at keeping touch. I can see what an impact it has positively on everyone on the site.
My therapist and I were discussing how little support there is in NI for people going through this. He's top of his field and works also for NHS and lecturer er at uni so would imagine he would know what's out there for sufferers. Apparently there is only one lady consultant who happens to have a personal interest in PND and this is the only reason people are referred to her. But I think they tend to be patients who self harm.
I would really like to start a page or something locally at least so if there are any women in NI who went what I went through and have struggled to find support....perhaps it will provide comfort and a voice! Il direct ladies to this site also as at the end of the day I'm not a health professional so must be careful on the advise. I can see how this could be a major issue. Trying to advise is very different than support and talking about your own experience!!

The lack of appropriate resources is appalling. Few get the help they need yet its such a common illness. On reflection I had pni moderately. Thankfully meds worked very well for me and I picked up quickly once they'd kicked in, however particularly when in the depths of pni my life was living hell. I turned from an outgoing person into someone who was afraid of her shadow. I felt so unbelievably physically ill and was incapable of doing anything. Yet all the help I had was weekly visits to my gp, fortnightly listening visits from my hv. Essentially I suffered the rest of the time more or less alone . There was an excellent cpn who specialised in pnd but she couldn't treat me as I wasn't in get area. I did manage to get onto a pnd course she ran which was excellent but by that time though I was feeling much better. I had needed far more support when ill but there was nothing.
Perhaps talk to ur hv if you'd like to start something. YYou are a very supportive and insightful person and I'm sure would be good at it.

You are sight supporting and advising are quite different again maybe in conjunction with hcp something could be started? The need is there!
I don't know if u have seen we are recruiting more moderators as are hoping this site will really take off over the next few months and there should be more traffic. Is that something you'd be interested in?
You asked about how I got involved. I like you and other lafies became quite active on the site and supporting others and was asked to be a moderator. It's very rewarding.
I have been to N Ireland many times as my ex comes from there )Tyrone ). I love it and the people but not the weather so muchx

Since yesterday iv been feeling anxious. Been working and doing usual stuff with baby but had meeting for work today and could practically feel my teeth chattering and slurred one of my words when talking. Like nerves. Clenched jaw!
Anyone ever felt like that? Slurring speech. Talking fast and anxiety to point where it exhausts me!
Funny thing is, my CBT therapist emailed me to remind me that more than likely is find this week difficult because of changes to routine and extra pressures at work. He is right!!!! Nice of him to think to mail that though.

Not surprised that your anxiety is higher than usual and this will impact on your pni. It sounds like you are doing brilliantly honey.

Clenched jaw was a definite for me and s sure sign if anxiety. Try not to focus on it. In those moments I found tightening muscles for 5-10 secs and released them helped.
Next week ill send u info on moderators to read through to see what u thinkx

Hi Kmum, how are you? Anxiety has so many weird and wonderful side effects! Have you tried giving yourself a little head massage? Just a few seconds can really help xx

Hey. Thanks girls. Had tough few days with anxiety. Considering selling business and back to work 4 days this week. Plus iv organised a lot for Giro D'Italia cycle event as route is right past our office! Think I'm doing too much as not sleeping again and thoroughly exhausted! Clenched jaw and tremors. Got few pains down below too which has worried me again!!
Good news though....got my referral to hospital and went to see the midwife counsellor last night. She has ordered my hospital notes which will take a few weeks to arrive and then they will run through series if birth events with myself and hubby.
In meantime next week they are going to put me through 'rewind therapy' to enable them to tap into those painful memories, fear and upset but also the good memories! It's supposed to help mothers get over post traumatic stress. So we shall see!
Gotta run but hoping I don't waken again In middle of night with mind racing!!!!
