Thank you. I already have 2 boys aged 18 & 9 and a girl aged 15 so huge age gaps all round!! They are all delighted although think my eldest was hoping for a girl too lol. I'm freaking out a little about having a newborn again but am sure this is just because its all feeling a bit more real now! Today I've been feeling yucky and sore but I think this is the past few days catching up with me, hope it passes soon. Can't believe I'm 20 weeks today :-D it's flying by...eeekkk! X

Oh wow not posted on here for 10 weeks!! Am 36 weeks today....eeek. Where has the time gone?! So my homebirth is organised, baby is well and growing lovely. Me.......having a grrrr few days, think it's this eternal tiredness, the pain of my spd at nights (thankful it's only at nights) and boredom. Feel so irritable today :-( fed up of everyone telling me to rest (cos I'm gonna need it) well yes I know, I already have 3 kids but how can you rest when it's agony to lie down, when you have to physically lift your legs up onto the bed, when your nose is blocked that much you can't breathe!!! It takes all my energy to 'rest'
Am so excited to meet my little man, as are the rest of the family, I'm just at that horrible, feeling crappy and fed up stage now.........you know the one where you wish the baby would come NOW!!
4 weeks to go.......I can do this!! X

Oh SJ, this bit is hard! The waiting and the uncomfomfortableness. But si nice, imagining whAt it'll belike to meet your babe. Would it be helpful or annoying if J wrote a few bits down bout my own homebirth? Things we learnt etc. Exciting times! Xxxx

Oooh yes please do write it down, I don't know anyone who's actually done it 'for real' lol it would be lovely to hear your experience. We were sitting tonight wondering what he'll be like, his personality etc. It's so exciting!! But yes this bit is hard going although I keep reminding myself to fully enjoy it as this is definitely the last time! Lol xxx

Okey Dokey! Starting from the beginning! When you go into labour, it's worth contacting your local labour ward to let them know. That way they know they'll be sending a midwife out at some point. We didn't do this until the last minute and they had to send a midwife in a taxi from the next town because my local labour ward was so busy! Get the biscuits in. My midwife ate two packets and umpteen cups of coffee. She was amazing. Have someone other than your partner at the birth, if you can. Otherwise he will be running around doing practical stuff rather than holding your hand and telling you you're amazing. Walk up and down the stairs sideways (if you have them) because it helps get the baby into a good position. Expect to be in your most 'happy' room in the house. Check out places you can push against/lean against/squat down from. My favourite place was a wall (before I got in the pool). I don't know why but everytime I had a contraction I would scurry back to that wall and lean against it. I think the routine of that got me into a rythym, making the contractions easier to deal with. Bucket is essential. I don't know about you but I am always sick during transition and your birth partners need to know where to find a suitable container! Lots of towels (sure you've already thought of this). Put a hot water bottle in amoungst the towels so that they're warm. A whole load of disposable mattress protectors. These are really handy. Are you having a water birth? If so, there's a whole load more info I can give you. We borrowed a pool from a friend (and bought a liner) I think you can usually hire them from someone too. But it was fantastic. I'll have a bit more of a think.....hope that helps for now xxxxxx

Thank you, most of what you've written I've already prepared for - fave room, bucket, shower curtains, towels etc etc. Already have a bag packed (bit like a hospital bag) for ease of finding everything I'll need to save my hubby running around looking for stuff. Not having a pool as I just can't justify the cost for something I might not use, I've hated being in water during my 3 previous labours!! How did you find coping with the pain? My last 2 births I managed with only gas and air at the pushing stage so hoping I'll be ok this time too as I'll be more relaxed and comfortable. The one thing bothering me right now is my midwife told me they go on call at 38 weeks here but as 37 weeks is classed as full term I'm not planning on going into hospital should labour start before 38 weeks. I see absolutely no reason to, obviously should a medical need arise then fine, but I'm healthy the baby is healthy so I just can't see the reasoning. I'm expecting a fight about it should I go into labour and it's making me slightly anxious. I know they can't force me to go in though.
Today I'm in pain from the spd, I hardly slept last night because of it so hope baby decides to stay put today cos I'm knackered!! X
