How exciting, thinking of you! Have some comforting, nourishing food, watch your favourite feel good movie, go for a wander, ask hubby for a massage- even if its just your feet! Anything that feels nice. Big love xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you, hugs much needed atm! Lol. Yeah we are going for a long walk just shortly and we've cleaned the house this morning (again) trying to keep organised and on top of things so I'm as relaxed as possible. Will get him to give me a foot massage later, he's good at those! Hehe xxx

My 'little' baby boy was born last night :-D he eventually arrived at 8.55pm after a long hard slog weighing a whopping (for me!) 8lb 10oz. I got my homebirth as planned but had to transfer in as they'd picked up some ectopic heartbeats?! So although he's fine he's getting hourly obs and we should be home first thing. He's fed beautifully twice already and am currently waiting for him to wake for his next feed. I'll write more on the actual birth later, think it'll be good to get it all out in black and white. I'm happy with my homebirth but in a way a bit gutted I didn't handle it as well as I thought I would have and am slightly pissed off at my mum who when I text her earlier wrote - so after all that you had to go into hospital anyway! No well done, no congratulations, nothing!! Grrr
Never mind, off to gaze at my beautiful (nameless) baby boy for a bit xx

What lovely news SJ! Many many congrats. Hope his obs and feeding continue well so you can get home again at the right time. I'm sure those baby cuddles will be making it all worthwhile. Hugest hugs xxx

Thank you both am still getting used to the fact he's actually here! We've named him Matthew Iain James :-D So my birth story....... After a false start on Monday and a transfer to the ward as they picked up ectopic heartbeats things came to a halt. Tuesday I generally felt uncomfortable and I knew it'd happen soon. I spent the night pacing and listening to relaxing music, managed to get some sleep at about 4am. Woke on weds morning to a 'bubbling' feeling and mild contractions so phoned my midwife to let her know my waters were trickling but by half 10 I'd had a 'gush' and the contractions intensified so rang her back. She arrived about half 12 and watched me. Was coping great and by half 1 the pains were coming thick and fast so she examined me and I was about 4-5cm dilated. was still coping reasonably well until about 3-4pm when I started to feel 'pushy' so just went with it. By 6pm things weren't happening as we thought they would be and I knew myself that I wasn't fully dilated despite needing to push. I was examined again and found to be 7-8cm so changed positions and started on the gas and air. I felt a bit out of control at this point and as I was getting to that transitional stage I just wanted him out! Lol. They'd picked up the ectopic heartbeats again so things started to change and it was decided that although I'd deliver at home, we'd be transferred via ambulance to get him checked so my living room was pretty full by about 8pm. We had 2 midwives, a student midwife (who did the delivery) and the 2 ambulance crew along with robbie, my sister and my daughter. Eventually I pushed Matthew into the world at 8.55pm using only gas and air and a tiny 2nd degree tear. It seemed quite hectic but think it was more to do with space issues as the midwife has since said it was quite calm lol I spoke through the birth with both midwives and said how I thought I didn't handle it like I thought I would but they've both said I did amazingly well and things wouldn't have been any different in a hospital, in fact it might have been more uncontrolled. I'm so glad, as is robbie, that we got our homebirth and our little boy is healthy.
Robbie and my daughter, kirsty were absolutely amazing. Both were with me the whole time and I feel so privileged that I've given my daughter the experience of seeing her brother being born. You can see the bond between them already, it's amazing. I'm glad Nathan decided not to be around as although he's a very mature 9 yr old it did frighten him seeing me in early labour but he's absolutely delighted with his baby brother.
I'm very aware of my moods at the minute and am making sure I talk about how I'm feeling. Yesterday I was tearful, which is expected, today has been better so far. It's such a huge adjustment, I'd forgotten just how big but so so happy that we decided to have our gorgeous little bundle :-D xx

Sounds like you did an amazing job SJ!! Was little Matthews heart ok in the end? It sounds so amazing to have the home birth with family and the support of trusted midwives! My experience of hospital births is so different. Hoping its third time lucky. There was never an option for home birth for me - although if she comes quickly Hope these first few days continue to be special and that you are healing well, the tearfulness and hormone changes can be difficult but sounds like you're really aware of yourself. All the best xxx

Thank you. Yes the paediatrician said she'd also heard a few ectopic beats but was totally within normal limits so wasn't worried and no follow up needed. I'd recommend a homebirth to anyone, there are very few reasons why you couldn't have one. I hope you have a better experience this time too. Yeah these past few days have been an emotional roller-coaster for us all but hopefully now things will start to settle xx

Hey yeah things are good, he's a fantastic baby although he doesn't sleep much through the day and that can be tiring. He does sleep really well at night though so can't really complain. I know 4 weeks already....don't know where that times gone!! X

Wow my little man is 5 weeks old today.....How'd that happen!! He is so amazing :-D He's really found his voice now. It's so cute. We bought him a play mat today with hangy toys on it and he loves it, was shouting at it earlier lol. He's such a content baby, he has his moments of course but in general he's a happy wee soul. He sleeps great too, last night I fed him at 8.30pm, put him to bed at 9.15pm and he was sleeping by 9.30pm and slept til 4am! This seems to be his routine. He feeds at 4am is back sleeping by 5am and that's him til after 9am. He does feed alot through the day and is awake more often than not but I don't mind if he continues to sleep like that at night. I love watching him discover new things, he's beginning to smile too :-D x
