As interesting as this is, I disagree that it affects heir infants. All of that part really stresses me out as I'm Worried about it damaging my child!

Yes I agree Kirsty. I think that is a hugely sweeping statement that cannot be true of everyone and is also probably based on guess work. All the people I know with PND are more aware of their parenting and sadly more self critical too.

Me too :-( my son has speech delay and I'm convinced it's my fault but ultimately he will be fine and his speech is already improving with therapy. The speech therapist said there was no reason to think it's linked to my PND and I want to believe her! I know I don't know you but the fact you are concerned already makes you a good mother in my eyes x

Thx for the article QR. V interesting. Yes the aspect you guys have mentioned caught my eye too. My eldest was 5 and the other a baby when I got PNI / I don't think it's had any impact on them. My baby only ever saw me crying for about 4 months. I think kids are v resilient and adaptable. I also think the guilt we carry can mean we blame everything into PNI and we say its all our fault. Thecreality is kids can have various issues even without PNI. You both do so much for your kids even when you don't feel up to it - I'm sure they'll be fine x

Sorry not sure if this in right part I’ve tried to read and take all that in but I’m struggling. I’ve not been diagnosed with anything but feel I need help. Have got as far as the assessment but she says it’s not baby related but the more I feel and read n hear others going through same or similar? I’m lost but now to see that it could affect the baby’s development further on , shouldn’t I have more help or asssed again or something.

Hi Turtlelover
Whether directly baby related or not should be irrelevant. As you have a baby, have symptoms you should get support . That’s the bottom line. It’s not right that you are not getting help. Remind me what’s your gp like? Can you get suppirt in getting referred?
Generally statistically your child is at higher risk of issues if mum has pni. Saying that many many kids have mums with pni and are fine. Mine were not affected by pni and I know others who had v sick mums who also have not had any I’ll effects. But of course any mum who is struggling needs help - happy and calm mums means mum is better equipped to manage any difficulties with kids .
Without directly naming you I might ask of a Fb group for advice about the difficulties you’re facing in accessing support. Would that be ok?
