Annie and Irene - I know exactly what you mean. I too get terrible intrusive thoughts and have trouble accepting that I am ill and not just a bad person. I haven't got any advice I'm afraid just wanted to let you both know that there is one more person who is experiencing similar feelings. It is nice to know you are not alone - that sounds selfish but I guess it is reassuring. Also I am not currently on meds or seeing a counselor/psychiatrist, and was wondering if anyone has found these things helpful in dealing with this? Up until now I have been dealing with this by relying on support from those around me but I'm now considering seeking further help. Annie please try not to beat yourself up and keep telling yourself that you are a good mother you're just not very well right now - but you will get better.

Thanks for welcoming me to the site, i am on a good afternoon at present with minimal thoughts. I have to keep remembering that i am a good person - i have spent the majority of my life caring for people (im a staff nurse when well), and not about to change into a monster. The fact that we find these thoughts so distressing means that we care. If these awfull thoughs didnt provoke a reaction then would be the time to worry. To mum of Jess - if you are suffering then its time to get help - discuss with your GP the need for a referral to a mother and baby unit where you can access PNI therapies and see a consultant who specialises in this awfull illness. They have better knowledge of appropriate medications and not just mainstream meds that GP's tend to use. Dont struggle on your own. XXXXXX
