Thx Sarah, actually I've been putting him next to me in my bed during the night and he seems to be sleeping a wee bit better. His teeth are giving him terrible jip (sp?) though, and only three out of the four back ones have cut. I tried to cut back on is naptime but poor love needs his sleep methinks (and mammy needs a rest ) lovely weekend all Scarlet xxxxx

Hello Scarlet How's it going now? Saw you were going to try to reduce the day time naps. Hope it is helping. My LO has generally been a good sleeper at nights but daytime naps are another thing. He was already down to just 1 nap per day before 6 months. And at 6 months when I returned to work and he was with a childminder he could even go all day without a nap and still not get crotchety. Don't know how he does it! And it is draining. So good for you who can keep those naps until they leave home! He now maybe has a nap every other day or every third day. I had another post about his poor night time sleeping recently and Stevensmummy pointed me here. I read this a few days ago - thank you Sarah. It was good to see you say that controlled crying doesn't work for all babies ... because whenever it is mentioned it is like this amazing cure and then you feel so crap for not being able to do it or make it work. But I don't think it works for my LO. He gets himself into such a state that he can be awake for over an hour just being calmed down. But if I just stay with him he'll be reassured and go back to sleep quicker. I think for my LO potty training upset him. Now when he wakes in the night he goes on the potty and generally does a wee. New nappy on and back to bed. I think he is happy with himself for weeing on the potty and can relax again. But I still need to stay with him. But it is taking less time. Just a shame I can't get back to sleep again myself. Tonight I didn't even get up for him - OH did - and still I'm awake I think you said in my other thread to give him water to cut out him asking for night time drinks. I did that too and it seemed to be working because he hasn't asked for water for 2 nights now. But ooops I forgot to tell OH that I was doing that and when he got up for him tonight he gave him some milk. Hope things are still going well for you Sarah. FloBob x

Hi Flobob,
Glad to hear you are getting on better. That controlled crying thing is not somthing I agree with and the more ppl I have spoken to, proffessionals and mums, the less I find who actually agree with it. Like you say its suposed to be some sort of miracle, but really in so many cases its not a miracle at all.
Glad to hear the water idea is working. I did that with my LO too and I admit it made a diff but he drinks alot anyway and he still drunk it. I now put it in a sports bottle (one of those with the pull up lid things you need to suck it out and it doesnt spill) and he drinks it and drops off again.
For us reassurance that I'm still here and that nothin is going to happen to him was the answer. I've seen 100% improvement over the last 2 months in his sleeping and daytime behaviour. I put it down to the new system. I also opted for telling the HV he is fine, no bother now it sorted itself out, we didnt even need the controlled crying. What they dont know wont hurt them!!!!

Hi Flobob, Well it's still a bit hit and miss in the old sleeping department, but I've knocked the controlled crying on the head. I think it works, but for older children. My LO has suffered so much with his teeth and he's had a few colds, so I'm hoping by the time he's 2, I'll have him settled down into some sort of routine so I can get some beauty sleep, becasue I need it . My eldest wasn't a good sleeper either, he had lots of night terrors like Sarahs and sleepwalkedk. Even now there ares ome nights he wakes up in the night dreaming (& he's almost 11). S xxxxxx

Glad to hear its a wee bit better Scarlet. You may be right about the controlled crying in older kids. I havent heard any reports about it, in fact its only when I mentioned it to others did ppl says god thats a load of HV rubbish that doesnt work. I'll bear it in mind when steven gets older tho. Cheers. As for your eldest, still sleep walking. Thanx! here was me thinking it would pass in a year or two!!! Good luck with the beauty sleep xxxx

Ok so i will be the one with the positive story about controlled crying!
My LO settled really well for the first year of her life, and then all of a sudden when we put her down at night she would start becoming hysterical! It went on for weeks with her finally only falling asleep on my OH in the chair in her room. So I decided to put a stop to it.
On the first night i would lay her down rub her back and walk out of the room, she would immediately start screamin. I stayed out listening for 5 mins then went back in for two mins. I would not get her out of her cot just lay her down and stroke her back only saying sshhhh. I would then go back out for another 5 when she would scream again and on this would go.
On the first night she finally went to sleep after an hour and half of this, on second night jus over an hour and down it went. By the end of week two she would just go straight down wiithout a mumur and off to sleep!
It may not be for everyone, and it is really hard to hear them hysterical without running to pick them up, but it worked for me x

Congrats WG I'm glad to hear it really does work.
I'm sure it can for some kids and I'm glad you get a settled nights sleep. Well done for following it thro. I know how hard it is listening to them screaming and after a week of no improvement on the 2-3 hrs I gave up. So well done you should be proud of yourself for carrying on!

Scarlet!! I found it!!!!!!!!
Well! I have found 2, both in his name and I'm not sure which so u'll have to google it. He got for this nightmares and for something else, what I cant recall.
Argent Nit 30c - this is tablet form, although it can come granulated. (I think this could be it as I seem to remember curshing it)
Colocynth 30c - granules (This I think is for teething - but dont quote me on this one)
I also use camomilla 30c - this is a night time settler. Works for teeth and all sorts of grumbles. I really like this one. Steven asks for it lol. My tummy sure my need granules!
Try googling them - let me know what you find out
