Hello All
I am unable to post in the PP section, but do feel I need to say something concerning the last few days events (I have been working, and also this was getting out of hand so I had decided to bow out)
I did say, a while back that putting PP into its own section, may make sufferers feel isolated and I feel that is what has happened.
To start with, for anyone who comes here diagnosed with Puerperal Psychosis - this illness is so hard hitting, but generally, with the right treatment major symptoms, such as hillusinations and dillusional thinking is overcome within around 4 months.
(I am no health care professional, just suffered PP after my first child was born 2 years ago, and this is what I was told by a specialist in the filed and is my experience)
The repocussions of the illness, such as the anxiety etc.... can hang around for a lot longer, and the memories can be horrendous, but I can assure you, with time, you will come to terms, or atleast accept that this has happended to you, and that no one could have prevented it happening.
Thank god you are here to tell the tale.
For any family members seeking help for a PP sufferer, you have not lost your partner forever, they will return to themselves with the right treatment and you will be able to lead a normal life.
There is no real support for PP specifically and you will need to source that yourselves, with all the best will and good intentions in the world, this illnesss I fear will never have the understanding, as ever, as a survivio I hardly understand what happened to me.
PNI is a very cruel illness, but with PP you totally loose your mind and your identity and it takes a lot of sole searching and help to get back to the woman you were before this ever hit.
You will get there, medication, counselling, whatever you need you deserve. Its every womans right to be able to enjoy their babies, and this illness, PP and PNI, does rob you of the most precious time in your life.
Dont let it win, you can beat this and come out the other side
Take care
Nat x
