So sorry to hear you have pp but at least now you've been diagnosed you can get the right help for you to get better. It is good that your partner is looking out for you and hopefully will continue to support you as you recover. Take care, thinking of you Love Marion.

Oh Hannah
well we are here for you - whatever your diagnosis I am not even sure that what our diagnosis is matters in this forum as long as we can relate to each other and we can support each other??
You say you have different medication, I just wondered what this was that you were prescribed? Are they what are known as anti-psychotics ?
just give me the name as I am always interested in what women are prescribed to pass on to to others and to see how they go.
Did your doctor say why he made a diagnosis of PP?
Was it anything in particular about the symptoms you described to him that has led him to feel this? has he suggested hospitalization or like many others we have been in contact with who have a diagnosis of PP or depressive psychosis are you going to be treated fully at home?
Anyway we are here and while the majority of us were told we had PND as far as I am concerned PNI covers everything and I know that there are more things we still can share about this illness that disrupts our lives after having a baby whatever our actual diagnosis
Love Veritee

hi to all. thanks for the messages. to your question veritee they have kept me on my main anti-d's for now but they have up them to 150Mg's and they have also given me diazipam to control my panic attacks and to help me sleep better. the doctor wants to wait abit to put me on anything else Ive got to see how i go on the diazipam. this may sound silly but i look at my walls in the day and see faces and shadows there. i also feel as if people are trying to hurt me and my children i don't like them out of my sight for to long cos i worry about them. its got that bad i even watch my friends with my children. my closest friend was holding my baby today tickling him and i just wanted to snatch out of her arms. I'm finding it all really hard one minute in full off energy the next I'm exhausted I'm so up and down its making me feel so dizzy.

Hi Hannah All the symptoms you describe I had and others So it does not sound at all silly at all to me as I have been their too and so have others on this site.... but I was never actually diagnosed with anything - I had to diagnose, myself see my story of some of my symptoms here: veritee.proboards7.com/index.cgi?board=pp&action=display&n=1&thread=5116&page=1about 4 posts down and half way down my post ...... as well as intrusive thoughts that I would kill my child and also g=not allowing anyone to hold or look after Caja for months as I trusted no one else - I also Others such as Vikki ( I hope you do not mind me saying this Vikki) had similar symptoms to what you describe but was diagnosed to have : severe psychotic post natal depression her symptoms included: others have had some of these types of symptoms but as considered by their doctors to be suffering PNI or PND So I was just wondering if your doctor by PP meant Puerperal Psychosis or Postnatal Psychosis ? This is always so confusing how different doctors seem to diagnose what seems to us as lay people - the same kind of symptoms - differently So out of interest and understanding I wanted to clarify exactly what your doctor diagnosed you to have ? As on here different women have been given different diagnoses when to us they sounded from the symptoms they described that they were suffering from the same illness and pretty much the same as many of us who had the diagnoses of PNI and had psychotic symptoms. There are so many diagnoses that are given to women on here and one of them that women have been diagnosed with is Post natal Psychosis - which in the text books and the doctors minds at least is quite a bit different from Puerperal Psychosis! There are so many labels given for women who's PNI symptoms goes a bit beyond what doctors normally believe PNI or PND to be ... so if a woman has symptoms such as disorganized thinking of any kind, hallucinations, bazaar thoughts and maybe even actions but it does not quite 'fit ' the puerperal psychosis model they work to often women will be diagnosed with such things as post natal psychosis or severe depressive psychosis and that some even diagnose Puerperal Psychosis when another may diagnose severe PNI. It is quite confusing to us on here to say the least - as it is our understanding that with Puerperal Psychosis we would be a medical emergency and need hospitalization, yet some are diagnosed with this and do not need this and still others are given even more labels !! So that it is not always certain to us that if you are given a different label but your symptoms are similar to another women with another label- whether we are having the same experience or not? Therefore on here labels are not important - all that matters hear is that you find the site supportive and you can relate to some of the issues we talk about . At the end of the day I do not think it matters what diagnosis we actually have as we share more than we do not Any perinatal illness ( mental illness after birth) is devastating to the individual and their family - so all we want to do here is support each other as women who have suffered - all these different diagnosis can be just so confusing and divisive in some ways ................. But we are here to support you whatever you 'officially' have All the best Veritee

Hi Sammyjo Know what you mean bout visions - I sometimes look at CHloe and think she has red eyes and looks like she's possessed. Know she's not. Think it's just me trying to find an explanation for her crying. Sounds ridiculous when I see it written down and know it's in my imagination. Not told anyone that as sounds so silly. Know I've not got pp, just pnd as I can rationalise between realitiy etc.

But I would add don't negate PND Marion it can be bad and we all need support with this!
Fulll blown PP is very serious - but we all get this mistaken idea that PND is mild somehow and can be ignored sometimes and I think often is by the professionals too. But I think there is case for better understanding of both illness and the link between them especially.
Hugs to you both Marion and sammy jo we all need it
luv

You know I have tried telling my doctor about my vision but he just kepts telling me its because I am not sleeping. But now I can understand that these visual disturbances are a symptom of the illness. Iit's horrible !!! I feel like crap today. My legs feel all weak like they are going to giveway And I feel dizzy, does anyone else suffer from this I have had this illness about 4 months now and I am not sure if I am getting better or worse ? My period is here at the moment and I always suffer worse with my period. I understand alot more about what is happening to me know but it still does not stop the symptoms from showing thier ugly face.
