well my pregnancy was god awful i knew i was pregnat from early on but didnt go to dr until i was 16wks and the only reason i went then was i had a scare 1 weekend and had started bleeding and had to rush to the casualty department everything turned out to b fine and they cudnt explain bleeding. i went to dr and he referred me to the maturity unit were 2 weeks later i went for my booking in scan was told that everything was fine and was just over 18weeks. had to go bk 4 weeks later for big scan which i did and was told dates were slightly less but they werent changing mine which was good cause pregnancy feels so long as it is without them making it longer.
i had constant nausea which made eating difficult, i also had low iron so was on 2 iron tablets a day yuk! at my big scan my bloods were done again and my iron levels had dropped again so i got a fone call to go bk to hospital a week later for another scan and more blood tests , they reveled that my iron had dropped again and that my b12 was borderline defeciant so i had go go and have iron infusions which is wen they put a drip in ur arm and over an hour they run iron into u it is extremely painful and i had to have 8 of them done evey other day.
once they had finished i had to continue taking my iron tablets and at 34wks i went for my last scan it went ok was told that baby was small and wud have to come bk in another 2 weeks for another scan to check it growth my bloods were done again and although my iron levels had go up they were still reli low so was told i mite need blood transfusion after delivery.
went bk fortnite later for scan and baby was still small and underweight for being 36weeks about 2 days after scan i had to rush to hospital as my contractions started was admited and given steriod injections for babys lungs contractions stopped and was let home the following evening after second steriod injection.
After that i spent everynite walking the floor in agony with back pain and pelvic pain. the pelvic pain was that bad that my legd wud give way and i fell a few times looking bk now i laugh bout it but t the time it was bloody sore.
finally on the 15th jan this yr i went for last app at hospital my consultant scanned me and baby had lost weight so he decided that since i had had such a horrible pregnancy was losing weight myself and with baby doing the same i should b induced so he performed a membrane sweep and booked me in for next day at 4pm.
i arrived at hospital ward the next day only 2 b told they werent expecting me and cud i wait in day rm so around 40mins later a midwife came and took me to my bed. my sister in law and i went and got something to eat and at 6 i had 1st pessery inserted and was hooked to moniter for an hr and not allowed out of bed. My contractions started 10 mins after pessery was put in so i was told that if they continued let them know as my last labour had went very quick.
By around 10pm my contractions were getting quite sore and i asked for pain relief and to check to c how things were moving along i was told i was only 2cms dilated and cud have paracetamol which i declined. by 11.30 i was climbing up the bed in agony and was getting no break between contractions so my sister in law called midwife who examined me again(5cm dilated) and said it wud b hrs yet but she wud get gas and air 4 me so 10 mins later she came bk with it and i told her my contractions were "quite pushy" she examined me again and said i was still only 5cm so i told her iwanted a bloody epidural now. she went of to fone delivery suite and at 5 mins 2 12 i was wheeled to delivery were i got on2 delivery bed and midwife now said i was 6 cms dilated. i told her i wanted pethidine so of she went to get it. while she was away i screamed in pain as my waters broke soaking my sister in law and i told her baby was coming now and i started pushing she was calling 4 midwife and had half delivered head of baby b4 midwife came bk in. midwife took over and olivia-aimee was born at 12.02 weighing 5lb 14ozs.
then the midwife who delivered her said congrats but i have to go now theres an emergency in theratre and a new 1 came in by now i was lying in my pool of blood and my waters and was shivering i was that cold (probly shock )everything had happened that quick baby was checked and apart from being very wheezy and mucousy she was fine. you r ment to spend an hr in delivery suite after delivery but by half 12 i was wheeled bk on to main ward were the midwives were gobsmacked that i had alredi delivered.they said to me had i left it any longer she wud of been born on main ward.
the midwife then came round to c how i was gonna feed and i said breast feeding her she asked if i had ever done it b4 and wen i said no she rolled her eyes and huffed and puffed but came over to show me how to get baby to latch on and suck which proved difficult and the more she tried the less olivia seemed interested and she was huffing and puffing so in the end i said just give her a bottle. so they took her away bathed her and fed her while i went and got a shower which i shouldnt of been allowed to do cause i hadnt even delivered and hr b4.
the following day i wanted to go home but olivia had a wheeze on her chest and had to b monitered 4 next 24hrs so they cud keep an eye on her oxygen levels.that nite the tiredness kicked in and a new born being a newborn olivia wudnt settle and kept being sick cause she was so mucousy i left the ward and went outside to have a smoke and wen i came bk in i was shouted at by midwife and told not to leave ward again. i told her if she spoke to me like a child again i wud fone my hubby to come and get me and baby no matter wot time of nite it was and then i went to my bed pulled curtain round and cried a midwife then came in asked if i was ok and said she wud take baby for a while let me get some sleep by now it was midnite and i was exhausted so i agreed. i woke again at 4am and went looking for my baby who was in midwifes arms and had been all nite she told me u can have her bk she hasnt shut up all nite so i took her bk to bed fed her and put her down she went straight to sleep.
well that was my birth doesnt seem to bad reading it bk but at the time it was and bearing in mind my contractions was so intense with no gap between and no pain relief it was the worst labour i have ever went through and i have 4 kids
to any1 who is reading this and hasnt gone through labour yet dont let his scare u my other 3 were great and i never had an epidural or pethidine with any of them just gas and air
