I hope you don't mind me posting my birth story, here goes..
I was 11 days over due had already had two sweeps and at 3am on Wednesday the 22 June 2006 I woke up with niggly pains, was pretty sure something was starting, although this was my second labour I had been induced for my first.
I nudged hubby and told him he smiled and said thats good then and went bad to sleep lol.
I went downstairs and started pacing, at 6am I called hubby and told him to get up, phone his mum to collect Daniel. I called the hospital and told them we were on our way. By this time my contractions were about 4 mins apart.
We arrived at hospital at 7am and was sent straight to the labour ward, we were put in the same room that I had started in labour with Daniel which I took as a bad omen because that birth ended in theatre (how right I was).
Any way the labour was progressing but I was having very intense pain in my lower back and across my groin which the midwife just dismissed as pressure. At this point I asked for an epidural but it didn't work so I was left with the gas and air.
This continued till about 11.30am.
During this time the baby's heart rate was being constantly monitored and suddenly an alarm sounded minutes later the room was full of people. I was being told to sign forms my hubby was sent away and I was being rushed to theatre I was so confused and scared the gas and air had been taken away so I was in agony, I grabbed the midwife and said 'he (the surgeon) will give me something for the pain won't he??' She told me not to worry as I was being put to sleep as the baby was in distress and I would be given a C-section.
We got to theatre and the surgeon examined me again and said I had gone from7 cm to 10cm in a few seconds he laughed and said it must be the shock. So he decided to perform a forceps delivery instead.
I was put into stirrups and begging for something for the pain and wanting my husband, the surgeon just said no time and carried on regardless. The pain was beyond description I screamed and screamed and was convinced I was going to die. My baby was born at 11.58am weighing 8lb 12oz, he was very cold and was placed in an incubator.
I lay there shaking and sobbing I couldn't speak. The surgeon started to stitch my 2nd degree tear and all I could jabber was stop stop stop.
My husband was finally brought in to me at this point and I just looked at him and shouted stop him!! He asked the surgeon to stop what he was doing as I still hadn't had any pain relief. He completely ignored us. It wasn't until another Dr told him 'this lady has had no pain relief whatso ever' that the surgeon said 'well there was no wonder you were screaming then' and carried on regardless.
I was in the recovery room for three hours because I had gone into shock. When we were finally taken to the ward I thought the worst was over. (silly girl)
At 9pm that night my baby began to pant, his breathing became really fast I buzzed the alarm and a midwife strolled in, she took one look at my baby and sent for a Dr. My baby was then taken to the special care baby unit and I was left on the ward all night not knowing what was happening. I called my husband and he said he was coming but they wouldn't let him and told him he had to wait until morning.
I was awake crying all night, the next day I was trying to get up to go get a shower and get to see my baby when I found to my horror I couldn't, stand, walk even move my legs and inch.
A midwife said 'of course I was sore I had just had a baby'. It wasn't until my husband came and demanded someone see me that a phsyio came, she gave me a Zimmer frame and that was that, my husband showered me, dressed etc I was so humiliated, but he was so lovely about it all.
Scott stayed in special care for about four day and we both stayed in hospital for about 6 days in total. It was four days before they took me seriously and did an x-ray which showed that I had a large gap in my pelvis (SPD) caused by the birth. I left hospital knowing nothing about the condition and if I would recover. I was not able to go to the toilet without help had to live downstairs, couldn't shower alone as I was so unstable on my feet, couldn't even turn over in bed.
My husband had to give up work to look after us. I became reclusive. Even after I started to recover I wouldn't go out as I didn't feel safe anywhere but home. I had flash backs, panic attacks, nightmares every time I closed my eyes.
My Son Scott is now 15 months old, It has taken my all this time to recover physically, mentally I am just getting myself back on track. I was diagnosed with PNI and PTSD. Life has been very hard, but I have a wonderful GP and therapist. And I have finally bonded with my beautiful cheeky boy.
Sorry it was so long, it feel so good to write this down.
Thank you
