Morning, I have just started posting on this site and am approx 15wks pregnant with baby #2. I 've had PNI for about a year (possibly longer, but in denial???). Anyway, I was previously on meds (Citalopram) but they didn't help at all and infact made me feel worse. I was on them for about 2-3 months. I instantly felt better when I came off them but then started to slip again at the beginning of the year so was put on Setraline (I was on these about 7 years ago when I suffered depression and they worked). Anyway, I was only on them for about 1-2 weeks when I found out I was pregnant and had to stop them. I feel anxious all the time and have constant horrible thoughts - mostly the abuse ones, which are the pits! Anyway, I would hate to take anything while pregnant, but with the way I'm feeling I don't think there's much option. Do/did any of you ladies take an alternative which helped? How did you feel about taking a/d's whilst pregnant? I don't know what will do the baby more harm - me stressed out my box or the a/d's? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! xx

Hi AnxiousMum
I have only been pregnant the once so dont have any experience. But i know there are meds that you can take in pregnancy at a low dose. Have you spoken to your GP about it?
The anxiety stinks, i know as this has been my main factor in PNI. Have a chat with your GP about the options hun, and if you check out some threads here (poss in the medication section i think) there are some stories of women who have taken the meds during pregnancy x

Hi Anxious mum
Like WG i have only been pregnant the once but know of other ladies who have taken anti-d's whilst pregnant and they had no problems. It is something you need to speak to your doctor about as they will know what meds you can take or talk about alternatives.
I know what it is like with the anxiety thing as I have this a lot and it is very hard but things will get better and speaking with your doctor and the midwife will help hopefully.

Thanks guys!
I will look at the other threads to see what other's have done. When I 1st saw my doctor ,when I found out I was pregnant, she told me to come off the a/d's as the side effects to baby were not known.
I would cope sooooooo much better if the bloody thoughts would stop!
I have an appointment tomorrow with a physic, which I'm really nervous about, but hey what have I got to loose. Also, an appointment for reflexology and reiki on Tuesday. I'll see if the Tuesday appointment relaxes me as I think this will help. The lengths we go to eh!
Thanks again, Kxx

Hi Anxious Mum,
My little sis is pregnant for the second time and still on a low dose of ADs from the first baby where she had PNI. Her GP in Oz says it's fine for her to stay on them so there must be something that you could take. Another thing to try might be acupuncture? It helped me quite alot to level things out when I was pregnant and up and down with my second and during the PNI after the first baby.
Good luck, Bobyn x

Thank Bobyn, I think I need something cos this is getting out of hand. I feel like I'm going to loose it at any point, but not that I'll do anything - just that I want to run away or get away from myself for 5, but there's no escape. Hope that made sense I will see how the natural remedies go and take it from there. I've had a couple of stressful days - my son bashed his head and I had to take him to hospital. Had to happen while husband is away working too. Anyway, thanks for your response and I'll keep everything crossed that things improve for me soon! xx

Hi Anxiousmum
Hope you have a good evening and you are able to put your feet up and relax.
I know how you feel - I often feel like running away and escaping and it is hard for anyone to understand how we feel especially those close to us.
Hang in there, and we are here for you so keep coming back and talking to us.
Take Care

Hi Anxiousmum,
I have suffered with depression for years on and off and when I got pregnant with my 1st I was on Seroxat. My doctor said that I couldn't take them while preganant and immediately changed me to Prozac. I took 20 mg throughout the whole pregnancy. I didn't really want to but I no option. My little girl was born perefectly healthy with no breathing difficulties or withdrawl. When I got pregnant with my 2nd baby I was on 40mg of Prozac. My dobtor didn't see it as a probalem and a few weeks before the birth I was feeling well enough to cut it down to 20mg. My little boy was born without any problems at all. Neither of them have had any learning difficulties at all. For me, personally, I felt so awful that I had to take the tablets for my sanity and I believe that it is more important for your health to be happy. Why tear yourself apart when you don't need to. If you can find some relief in alternative remedies then well done. I know they work wonders for some people and I wish that maybe I had tried some but don't rule the tablets out completely. The risks are very low during preganancy and I can asure you that loads of women on this site have taken them while pregnant.
I would like another baby and am weighing up the pros and cons because I only really suffered with PNI after my 2nd child. It worries me about feeling so bad again with another baby and makes me think that I won't have another one but then I think that deep down I do want another one and I shouldn't let PNI dictate my life. At least I know I would have this site and that I would get better. It's a real dilema.
Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope that you find something that work for you. You might find that as your hormones change with preganancy you might feel a bit better.
xx
