hiya, I'm really sorry if someone has posted something about this already or an event in plymouth but i didnt have a chance to look through all the posts. I'm basically looking to start a fundraising event in the Plymouth/ Devon area, for next years awareness weekend but needed to get some ideas and support going to see if there is going to be enough support to sustain a decent sized event. I'm a musician and songwriter so my first thoughts were to have a concert/ gig event type thing but it would be nice to maybe make a whole day event and have poetry/ artwork/ music/ other things as an expression of how it feels to have post natal depression, but if they're arent enough contributors then I guess I'll have to stick to a music event which will be cool anyway- if you're a musician particularly please get in touch! Perhaps if they're arent enough pni musicians (!) then I can keep it to women/ mums.... its all just ideas at present so if you ahve anything to contribute, even just advice that would be great! Here's my myspace address for those who are interested, www.myspace.com/jemmarycroft get in touch on there or email: jemmarycroftmusic@yahoo.co.uk Cheers! Jemma

I would not be able to join in or come personally I am afraid to your event in Plymouth if it was held the weekend of the PNI Awareness Weekend - even though Plymouth is only an hour or so from me and I would really love to .
If you held it a couple of weekends later or in the summer I would definitely attend and try to help organize.
But then again if you did it on another date it would not coincide with the PNI Awareness weekend so it would not perhaps have the same effect, in terms of the press and the advertising we are doing through mind and other organisations?? It is a pity as I would love to come
But on the awareness weekend itself 3 -5 May I would be busy doing my very small effort down here in West Cornwall
Which so far is no where near as exciting as yours as all we will be doing is a garage sale, car boot sale on my smallholding and a party afterwords. Plus I have someone who may run a bike ride nearby at the same time.
But I do know some musicians - mainly men ,not women - in the South West who might like to join in - well I could try anyway if you would like me to?
I get the feeling that any of us that organize anything in our areas will be pretty much on our own with doing it - as we are all spaced so far apart so can not do many joint efforts.
But there is plenty of time to recruit volunteers, and perhaps if you advertise this in here, in facebook and myspace there will be others prepared to join you and help you organize it in Plymouth
But I do hope you do decide to do it as it will be very worth while - although I do know how much effort and time this will take
All the best to you jemma
If you want to post an example of your music on here - you are welcome or tell us where we can hear it I am sure many will be interested And if we can help in any way, let us know keep popping back as you may have replies - theses things do take time

Oh I don't think they need to have had PNI to join in with or play at this or any PNI event - I am having a garage sale and party and I doubt many will have had PNI - they will just be mine and my daughters friends. As well as the very few women musicians I know I am thinking of asking a couple of male musicians and their current bands who live near me to participate in this , and neither of them have had PNI!!! So it does not matter - one of them being Jonathan Perkins who was my daughters lecturer/examiner on her rock music course last year : www.jpperkins.com/discography.htm and Al Rideout: www.bobbys-helmet.com/frameset.htm who taught Caja guitar. I want to ask them on the principle that they of course have not suffered PNI but know my daughter - with whom I suffered PNI with - well and had her interests at heart when they taught her music, - as in a way my daughter suffered from PNI too.... So they may be willing to do something for the event. However if your event in Plymouth is likely to be much larger than my party, if you were interested in them for your gig - I would be really happy to try to put you in touch? As they might be more inclined to play at your event than in my muddy field!!! Let me know and I could ask them? Love veritee
