One thing I don't get is if I am significantly anxious but insignificantly depressed i.e. I'm anxious not depressed, and even on the good days where the thoughts aren't bad, why do we still get tearful for no reason??

I don't understand either and I was in tesco's the other day and ended up in tears in the corner of tescos - how embarrasing! I think for me it is when I get anxious and can't calm down and it is my way of letting it out so this might be a way of coping. I normally feel better after a cry but not in tescos!!!

Just try and accept that it is better to let it out than to keep it in!

Oh bless you in tescos! I do that if I have a panic attack - just go into the corner of a store until it passes! I am surprised there aren't little groups of people in M&S/tescos/asda all just cowering in corners lol

I think you are right, I think it is anxiety that just has to come out some way.

Have been ok this week although my LO has got chickenpox yesterday and I keep thinking she is going to die. This morning she didn't wake when she normally does and I thought she was dead and I went through my mind everything I would do if she was!!! I also have to be at home as she can pass it on so have the next week or two in the home on my own with my LO - already starting to panic!

I had this too and it is just a thought - but could it be hormone related? PNI is thought to be a hormone imbalance after the birth of a baby so if this is the case this may explain the mixed and sudden emotional changes we go through?

I certainly have been able to relate mine to hormones - I am awful when I have my period and half way through my cycle! I have always had difficult times during the time of the month but this is 100 times worse since having my LO.

Do you think PNI is hormone related?

I definitely think PNI is hormone related and probably every woman has an imbalance but with sensitive and over-protective and sometimes perfectionist personalities probably get PNI.

I do feel the tearfulness is just like you get with normal PMT. It isn't sadness, its just an urge to cry suddenly for no reason. Like if you did that then the tension would be released.

I am taking evening primrose oil and vitamin b6 (tescos womens health vitamins) and apart from my nails and hair improving, my mood has lifted a lot quicker this time than when I had PNI the first time, so maybe if you balance your hormones via these natural remedies the symptoms of PNI aren't so bad - still there - but not so bad, bearable.

On the hormone front, yes you are right littlelotty about our cycle affecting our PNI. Look at how many people have a hellish few days when they are due on. You did, I did, justme31 did and so did tabbysmum - its such a pattern.

They should inject some blokes with some progesterone and see what happens - there would be proper tears then.

I agree with Littlelotty, this past week when my anxiety's been really bad I've been very tearful, but not depressed. My anxiety and tension never feel quite so bad after a good cry and I think it's of way of releasing tension. Have learnt my lesson about being caught short with a crying fit and ending up looking like Alice Cooper, I always keep make up in my bag now - so now I end up looking like someone who's just had a crying fit and is smothered in make-up!
