Hey girls Just a quick question for those in the know..... how the hell do you get your kid to pee in the potty?? My wee girl has been showing signs for weeks but I've been reluctant as I'm expecting another baby at the end of July and wanted to wait a bit. She's 2 and 4 months and announced today 'no more nappies, pants like mummy' so I thought ok, why not? Ive been through 9 pairs of pants since 11am! I have no idea if that's what's supposed to happen or is she just not quite ready yet? She grabbed her crotch, said pee pee then did a dribble in the potty which we made a huge fuss of! Unfortunately she then went away to do a big puddle on the floor! I think she may have been on her way to the toilet upstairs but my hubby was in there and by the time he came out there was a puddle. Prob not though, she just likes to accompany us to the toilet!! We said nothing, just reminded her to use the potty and cleaned her up. She kept doing these little dribbles in the pants but nothing on the potty then did another big puddle on the chair at tea time! Again said nothing, just cleaned up and reminded her about the potty. What are these dribbles all about?? Do you think she hasn't got the muscle control yet or just hasn't quite grasped what we want her to do? I really don't want to put her back in nappies now I've started but my washing machine begs for mercy as it is!! Any suggestions? Do you think I should get her to sit on the potty for a bit longer? She always grabs her crotch when she's doing a dribble so I know when it's coming, it's just trying to get the big messy pee in the potty that's the mystery?!? Thanks girls xxx

I'm a bit smug today! My LO is getting it!! YAY! HAve found sitting her on the little seat on the toilet is much better than the potty as she would look round and think she had made a mess by peeing in the potty! (She's a bit OCD about mess, God knows where she gets that from, it's certainly not me or her father!) Haven't had the pleasure of a poo yet but I'm sure that will be a joy in itself!! xx

Thats graet Caterina! My LO is 2 years and 2 months and very forward for her age but seems to really not want to go to the loo! She cant tell me when she needs a wee, and if she tells me she needs a poo and I suggest the toilet she freaks out!
Any tips guys?? (so bad at this mummy stuff!)

Hi Caterina,
I'm kind of going through it at the moment. My little girl is 3 in 2 weeks. If we leave her nappy off at home she will quite happily wee and poo in her potty but after aout an hour she says that she wants her nappy on. Yesterday she said to me that she wanted to wear knickers so she wore them all morning. She kept telling me when she wanted the loo and was really good. When I was on the phone to my sister though I asked her if she needed a wee and she said she didn't and wet herself about 30 secs later. I just cleaned up and reminded her to tell me and that she didn't have a nappy on. We went out to Tesco's and as soon as we got in there I asked her if she wanted a wee. She said she didn't but then a minute later she wet herself. I'm not sure if I should persevere with her or just wait a few more weeks til she wants to try again.
It's really hard isn't it because you don't want to stifle their behaviour by sayin that they can't wear knickers yet but at the same time I am thinking that maybe she is not ready yet but is trying to act grown up before she is ready.
I'm glad your LO is using the toilet seat though. Some hate the toilet and some hate potties. It's just finding what's right for them.
Good luck x

My first used the potty - no probs, but my second never once used a potty - mainly because of his size - so went straight on the loo (which he DID NOT like AT ALL, lol) ....our first took no time at all to train - second took ages - nightmare!!

WG....don't worry about it. Most of the mums I have spoken to have said that their LO's have done it in a few days. They have just waited until LO wanted to do it and then cracked. My darling daughter is just a pain in the bum. First she wants to then she doesn't! Nothing like her mother!! The way I see it is she's gonna feel a bit stupid at scholl if she has to wear nappies so I'm sure she'll crack it by then. I just wish she'd make her bloody mind up!

Oh hun, I never thought about all this before having kids! LOL! Might have to go and see if I can by a book on potty training...
Sounds like your LO is still testing things a bit, but certainly on her way!!

LOL ;D Oh girls! I reckon we should just leave them in nappies til they're 5 and let school deal with it!! I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing and having flipped through some books they're all pretty vague about the whole thing...'be led by your child' Well if I was to be led by the little bugger she would eat nothing but ice cream and stay up til 10pm!! I have had some success with the poos, she was pretty good at telling me about poos while in nappies but the peeing is definitely taking longer!! I must admit I got a bit frustrated this morning while clearing up the 3rd puddle of the morning and told her if there were any more puddles then she would have to go back into nappies (oh the authors of the books wouldn't be happy!)..2 pees in the toilet since then though but I don't think threats are the way to go! Well except with my LO who is definitely pushing the buttons with her behaviour at the moment..not just potty training, just general terrible 2s!! She seems pretty pleased that I make such a huge fuss when she goes in the toilet so am trying to focus on the positive praise bit and not be grumpy when I'm on my hands and knees (39 weeks preggers!!) scrubbing the carpet!! I'm determined to not go back to nappies but am wondering how I will ever leave the house again? I've been using pull ups (aka 'princess pants' aww!) when we need to go out in the car but the time will have to come when we brave it bare bummed..oh I'm not looking forward to that! The star chart sounds like a good plan, I may try that as she's mad about stickers etc! I wonder if it just takes a while and I'm expecting too much too soon! Oh who knows, hopefully she'll be dry by the time she's 20! I'm taking heart that others are finding this problematic too, and you're right WG they don't tell you all this BEFORE you have the kids!! xx

Update! My LO wore the same pair of pants & trousers from morning til night yesterday, has been dry all morning today and is nursery's problem this afternoon!! Oh I am a proud mummy! I take no credit for any of this, sheer blind luck I reckon! We braved the swings bare bummed this morning and are going to try a short journey in the car tomorrow......now if I could only get her to sleep all night and eat vegetables then I'd be delighted................ xx

You are all doing very well and have shown me it isn't easy but is possible!

Hi Nicola Don't stress about it until you have to hun! That's the only advice I can offer you! You have a year and that's a really really long time in kiddy development! Take each day as it comes and your LO will let you know in their own way when they are ready to shed their nappies xx
