Hi everyone,i have been suffering pni since my LO was 5 months old shes now 9months.My medication is helping me alot with the awful anxiety i have been suffering but the most thing i find disturbing is the dreadful thoughts i have,i get alot of images of things happening to my baby and chanting scary words like rape etc... I also have thoughts about death and how would my family be at my funeral! Even though i know these things are not real and i would NEVER act on them it doesnt stop them being so distressing and so frightening to the point i dont like being alone with my beautiful baby girl! I have been visiting this site for a while and find everyone so helpful,i appreciate any advice given.x

Hi Sarah Jane,
Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in thinking like this. My LO is 2yrs old & I have had intrusive thoughts for nearly all that time. Like you, I know I would NEVER harm her but it still doesn't stop the disgust & it does stop me feeling comfortable around her when I'm playing with her or changing nappies. I know the thoughts are fuelled by anxiety & are what we fear the most. I now avoid news stories as they set the thoughts off. My thoughts are generally more "bearable" these days & most of the time I can see that they are irrational & ridiculous .
The more attention you give them the worst they are. I call my thoughts "The Imp" & tell him to **** off! I read a wonderful book called "Imp of the mind" by Lee Baer & it does give you that re-asurance that they are just OCD thoughts & nothing more. Apparently everybody has bad thoughts but it is only when we react to them & give them credence that they become a problem.

Just wanted to say that I think the Imp idea is fab and might have a look at that book! You got it spot on about giving the thoughts attention. We all have these thoughts from time to time and most of us just let them pop out of our heads again without a second thought. It is when we start dwellinng on them that they get harsher and more frequent.
Glad things are getting more bearable for you and hope it is not long now before the thoughts are off the scene all together x

Hi georgie thanks for your advice,i have them thoughts alot,they have become a lot less at the moment.I know how awful and frightening it is,they turn my stomach and repulse me! Heres hoping for better days take care x x

Hi, I also have this intrusive thoughts about my baby boy, I love him so much and it really hurts me to be thinking og those horrible thoughts,
although getting enough sleep really helped me be more in control and in the "now", I still have these thoughts pop out out of nowhere and jumping from one thought to the other. It really helps to know that I am not alone and these are just thoughts and signs of GAD or OCD.

I am sorry to hear you are going through this, it really is hard for anyone who has not been through it to understand. How old is your baby boy now??
