For PNI or anything else:
•Cymbalta® (duloxetine hydrochloride) •Prozac® (fluoxetine hydrochloride) •Strattera®(atomoxetine hydrochloride) •Symbyax® (olanzapine and fluoxetine hydrochloride) •Zyprexa® (olanzapine)

Hi Vee,
I take prozac and whilst I felt a bit crumby for the first 2 weeks, it has worked very effectively for me. I slept alot initally and had some flu like symptoms, but a decrease in anxiety was the first thing I was told I would notice and did. Later, thinking processes improved. The downside for me, is that it does make me sleepy, but apart from that minor side effect, it has worked well.

Hi Vee. I've been prescribed prozac several times and to be perfectly honest I may as well have been taking chalk. It made me feel like I had perminant morning sickness and that was about it really. If it helps I've noticed a pattern with women on this site in that those who do well on citalopram tend to have found that prozac didn't suit them and vice versa.

Hi Veritee
I was on fluoxetine for few months (not sure how long) and they didnt agree with me, had lots of side effects which the gp etc kept telling me were just part of my illness, but as soon as i was taken off them, they went, also for me, they didnt lift my mood, if anything i went more downhill (was on these when i crashed car off road). bean x

Hi Vee, I have taken fluoxetine in the past prior to PNI (and was put on it to take during pregnancy although I came off them when I found out I was pregnant). I don't get on well with fluoxetine as it causes me insomnia so I won't take it anymore. I was on escitalopram for the PNI but am now back on an old favorite dosulipin.
I took Olanzipine for several months for PP, although this made me gain weight rapidly, like about 2 stone in a few months. It increased my appetite and I was constantly hungry. It also stopped my periods returning. I then took Amilsulpride, but that elevated my prolactin levels so we settled on Quetiapine for the last month of my illness. All these meds made me feel emotionally numb, although that could have been the PP rather than the meds. I won't really know as when I came off them I felt so much better, but the doctor said it could have been that I was recovered by that stage so would have felt better even if I'd stayed on meds.
Sorry if I have spelt all these meds wrong!

Hi Veritee,
I first took fluoxetine about 12 years ago. I had been prothiadin for about 6 years but then stopped them. I went downhill so the doc. tried the fluoxetine. I found that they gave me bad night sweats so the doc changed me to paroxetine (seroxat) and I stayed on that for about 8 years. The when I found out I was pregnant with the first the doc changed me back to fluoxetine. I didn't have the night sweats and stayed on 20mg throughout the whole pregnancy and after with out any major problems. When I got pregnant with no. 2 I had to up the dose to 40mg which I stayed on for the rest of the prganancy and about 4 months after when PNI struck. They upped the dose to 50mg but it had no effect and that's when I was changed to Citalopram and have been on it since.
Hope this helps.

Hi Veritee
I first took fluoxetine around 8 years ago which worked really well for me and after around 18 months i was able to come off with little side effects. Managed effectively for the next 3 years until i had my son and PNI kicked in. Initially i was on Citalopram 40mgs for around 10 months and although they helped massively with my anxiety (they allowed me to fly for the first time in 5 years!!) they did nothing to lift the depression. So, i was swapped to fluoxetine as of April this year and have slowly worked my way up to 60mgs but as yet have absolutely no effect whatsoever..if anything i would say i have felt worse as the dose has increased....i also started taking Buspirone one week ago. Hope this helps x

Hi Veritee, I take prozac at the minute and for me it works well with few side effects. Out of all the anti-d's I've been on I find it works the best I have taken olanzapine for periods of 6 - 18 months in the past and I did not like it. I think it did help with my psychoticthoughts but I felt like a robot on it - like I had no emotions at all. Also I found that I gained weight very rapidly and was so hungry I could have eaten my own head Steph

I am currently on Fluoxetine and it is working fine for me. I am eight months pregnant and have been on this one since about 20 weeks. Before pregnant I was on Citalopram but they changed when I got pregnant.
I know Fluoxetine worked for me cos I took it years ago for depression but struggled to come off it, with tingly hands and arms, headaches, and insomnia being the main problems.
Going back to it I just had a bit of sickenss and over anxiety for a couple of weeks but otherwise fine. Oh I do find if I take it on an empty stomach it repeats on me all day (nice!).
Am a bit worried about coming off it cos of last time but they have said once baby is here I can go back to Citalopram which I came off of fine.

I was on fluoxetine about 14 years ago as a first time on anti d's(my son is nearly 15-due to PNI) , but i became very hyper from some who would say nothing to someone who would say anything that came into my head no matter how inapproppriate that was. So I came off it and was put on seroxate for years which was fine, now on low dose ciprolax, but alos depakete mood stabliser and riserperdrone anti psychotic. (Chance of being prone to bi polar episodes) may explain they say the problem with fluoxetine as those types of drugs can make you hyper.

Hi Veritee,
I was on Fluoxetine for nearly 18 months when they finally decided it may not be working, I then tried Tramadol (which was excellent for sleep) but after a period of feeling very suicidal the psychiatrist put me on Olanzipine and additional fluoxetine. They then took me off of the Olanzapine due to weight gain and I have since stuck my fingers up to the psychiatric world and gone cold turkey...personally the Olanzapine worked wonders, really numbed me, their additional reasoning for taking me off it was worry of addiction, which I can understand as it knocks you out completely...

hi, i have used fluoxetine on and off for over 13 years and have always had a significant change in mood after a few weeks.i also used this for the last 7 months of my pregnancy and was happy to take it as was safe to use during pregnancy. however i have suffered with PND for over 2 years now and only in the last few months did i swallow my pride and seek help from my( sympathetic) GP who perscribed this again the first month i began to feel more settled and relaxed but this only lasted a few weeks then i had a serious dip to which my doctor double the dose from 20mg a day to 40mg a day since this change i'm not sure if the medication increase was a little too much as i have now developed insomnia! but on the whole my PND seems to be more under control.
