I am wondering if anybody has been admitted to or has experience of Coombe Wood Mother & Baby Unit in Park Royal, London. I was a patient there immediately after my daughter Sophie's birth from the end of June to mid August 2006. My experience was not a positive one and has left me with a lot of anger and unresolved questions about my illness. I now know that I suffered Puerperal Psychosis and that this was completely missed by the Psychiatrists and staff at the Unit.
If you feel able to share your experience with me it would, I am sure, prove amazingly cathartic.
With my love for a good and dry weekend!!

Hi Emma
I have reread your story and first have to apologise that when I met you I didn't put 2 and 2 together and didn't equate your story to you. It breaks my heart to hear about the horrific treatment your received in particular whenyou were discharge without any follow up care for 'breech of contract' - what the hell do these people think they are running? This is a unit for seriously ill ladies - do they seriously expect them to be able to control their behaviour at all times???
Your bravery is amazing - you really are an inspiration!
Love
Monica

I am visiting a mother baby unit myself on Friday for my work and am interested to see how they run theirs. I get the impression that MBU's across the country follow the same format, so I will let you know what I think of them.
So many suffer bad experiences in the pysch setting, I have now witnessed it for myself and find it impossible to speak up for these people when I see it happening. It is great that you are so strong and a survivor Emma!! x
Take Care

WG, I will be interested to read your account of your visit to the MBU near you, from a sufferer's and a nurse's point of view.
I am visiting the one in Beckenham, Kent on 29th October, just in case I end up needing hospitilistation after the birth of my second baby. I am scared to set foot back in a psyche ward setting and really hope I find the experience and atmosphere of this MBU totally different to the general psyche ward.
