A friend of mine, called Joanne, who I have only met over email is going to be on GMTV with Lorraine Kelly this week talking about her experience of PP, which she had in January last year after the birth of her first son.
It'll be aired either Wednesday 14th or Thursday 15th. Will let you know when I know which day, but I've set the SKY+ to record both just in case.
She decided she wanted to raise awareness about the illness and emailed a load of celeberaties and websites and companies one night. The next morning LK replied and she had train tickets and a hotel booked for the following week. I think she is very brave going on tv to talk about it.
Shame she's not a member of the forum otherwise she could have plugged it.

Thats ace! I tried a couple of times to get us on This Morning, but no luck yet... not given up though!
Do you know if they have an iplayer type thing for ITV to watch it later like they do on the BBC?

Immensely brave thing to do. Have considered taking part in interviews for magazines etc, but ultimately have decided not to go ahead - went as far as talking through my experience with a journalist, but perhaps just not the right time for me when she made the approach. I'd be fascinated to listen to what your friend has to say so will V+ it!
Your idea about the Bounty Packs was fantastic - WG if you need some help to contact them do let me know x

That really is very brave of her. She must be truely passionate about helping others. The thought of talking to anyone still sends the anxiety warnings for me but I applaude anyone who can actually do it. I will def be watching and make sure that others know about it too

I've just found out it's on tomorrow morning (Wed 14th Oct), so get watching everyone.
WG, ITV do have an iplayer thingy but don't know if it will be on it. Just looking at the GMTV website now.

Ace! Thanks hun x
Yeah I have done a couple of magazines in the past in order to raise awaerness, but it is hard when your husband and children are in there with you and people at hubby's work start asking about the magazine articles. I myself am not bothered, and still wish to push for This Morning, but it is worth thinking about the after effects first!

Thanks for finding the link Andrea.
Yeah, I thought she did really well but now I've seen it I can understand why she was disappointed. Joanne really wanted to talk about her experience at the MBU and her treatment and recovery but they just brushed over it. She wanted to highlight the need for more specialist care.
And yes, they should have called it by it's proper name and perhaps listed the symptoms. I am appalled that Dr Hilary mentioned that some mother's kill their babies, because even though it is true, that is very very rare, and awareness should be raised so that the illness never gets that far. Also, they should have at least mentioned the statistics involved about PP and also PND so people don't think it's something that could never touch their lives. Because to me, PP isn't as rare as people make out - just think how many of us on here have had it!
All in all, she did great to get on there and start raising awareness, but I think GMTV handled it poorly in my opinion, but perhaps I had high hopes?
Joanne has since been called by the Echo (which I assume is a newspaper in her area, no idea, it was in her facebook status?) to be interviewed tomorrow, so she's started the ball rolling. Good on her!

Joanne did a really good interview I thought - and rightly emphasised the importance of early intervention. Really brave & sure it's helped many x

I also thought she was fantastic - if you speak to Joanne or e-mail her BWP, please pass on my sincere thanks to her.
Why oh why did they not call it Puerperal Psychosis though - call a spade a spade please!!
I hope it does sit in people's minds and should any new Mum show symptoms described, somebody may have the wherewithal to get the right help for them and fast.
Love to all, Emma x

I always have GMTV on in the background as cant bear silence Caught postnatal depression and was glued to it. She did a great job and should be proud of herself. I did email GMTV and tell them about us in the hope they may possibly put a link on their website Liz x

Hi, Just saw the link and thought that Joanne and her hubby did a really good job in the short interview space they were given. Thought Lorraine was pretty good too and it brought a tear to my eye(what a surprise!) when she congratulated Joanne on looking well and being recovered. Dont think Hilary jones comment on 'mothers who kill their babies' was helpful or necessary and smacked of sensationalism. So all in all a big well done to Joanne, hubby and Lorraine and a gag for Dr jones please! Tears xx

No, it wasnt a helpful comment from the dr at all. And this is my issue with magazines and such the like hunting out stories on such things. I have done two magazines and on both occasions they have appeared dissapointed that in the depths of PNI I dodnt want to hide my child!
Yet the real symptoms of PNI, the anxiety, the stress, the physical symptoms, the thoughts, the OCD are never reported - and thats why women suffer for so long because they believe PNI to be nothing more than depression and the want to kill your child! Grrr, moan, swear, on high horse...
I could go on for hours about that one!
