Is there a time that's best for catching people in the chat room? I always time it badly and find it empty. x

I did try to go into the chat room but couldn't get in. The name box wouldn't let me write anything in it. Maybe I have done something wrong?!

Hi, sometimes I can only get in the first time I try, if I come out and go in again I have to close the whole site and start again, do you know that you don t have to put in a password, just a user name? try this and see

Hi Everyone The chat room worked in almost every browser until Microsoft got even more paranoid and included lots of 'security' features in its web browser internet explorer. If you use another browser like Mozilla (http://www.mozilla.org/) or Avant ( (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/24707) you may not have the same problems - but you do have to have java enabled for it to work in any browser. I am looking into buying a chat room facility which will not give us the same problems and will be easy for any internet user to use. The present chat room is free for us to use and was fine but I may well have to pay for this service in the future in order to ensure it is 'user friendly' Please can forum members give me some feedback as to whether they think the chat facility is useful and therefore worth paying for? In the meantime I will try to describe what you have to do to make sure your PC can use the chat room: see below: ________________________________________ To use the chat room you have to have 'java virtual machine' from sun installed and configured. To get this go to : www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp or windows update for windows only You still need to make sure you have downloaded this and installed it and then restarted your PC, even if it does say that Java is enabled. ( it seems that 'enabed' in Microsoft speak does not always mean the same as installed and working!) So do this anyhow and make sure you restart the machine before trying the chat room again. You also may find you have to enable cookies and scripts. (if you are worried about security you can enable them for www.pni.org.uk only) i.e. in internet explorer go to - tools - internet options - and then the security tab - then 'custom level' and make sure that scripts java and active x are enabled. Pop up windows also have to be enabled for the site for the chat room to work. Pop up windows are enabled by default but if you have XP service pack 3 or yahoo or MSN toolbar, or extra security programs these may have included pop up blockers installed. I can not tell you how to disable all pop up blockers but if they are on a toolbar, it is usually obvous how to do this but for Internet explorer do the following: - if you have internet explorer 6 and maybe XP and service pack 2 go to - tools - pop up blocker and turn off pop up blocker for the time you want to use the chat room or go to pop up blocker settings and add 'www.pni.org.uk' to the list of sites that pop ups are allowed on. Also go to - tools – internet options – Privacy tab – and the the ‘advanced ‘ button and tick ‘override automatic cookie handling’ and ten make sure ‘always allow session cookies’ is ticked. I do hope this helps and I am sorry that for some this complicated procedure is necessary. All the best Veritee

Thanks Veritee
I will try that and see if it helps.
Although I personally have only been in the chat room once, the day I went in I was feeling very low & the support I got in there helped me through the evening & next day.
There does also seem to have been more recent interest over the chat room. I think it serves a purpose that a forum cannot. People can maybe talk about more personal things & not worry that it's posted for all to see.
I think it would be a worthwhile investment.

I actually managed to get into the chat room today. It seems that i can only access it once a day and after that it wont let me. Anyway, I managed to get in there and typically there was no one in there to chat to anyway!

I haven't as yet found the chat room with people in it, but I have only been here a week or so. I think the chat room's a great idea.
I run a couple of forums with ezboard and they have a chat room included, so you can enter the chat only if you're a member of the forum. I find this a lot better for 'policeing'.
I've not used any other types of chat room for quite a few years now, so cannot think of any others to recommend, but will let you know if I come across any good ones.
