Just wondered if anyone else gets visual disturbances along with there PND/anxeity ?
I've seen floaters for years, but now I get horrible headaches with flashing lights. Sometimes I see a large light in the corner of my eye, against a wall etc... These come on worse when I am really stressed out and worrying about everything

Hey Ella, sorry i missed this thread so sorry if you feel a bit neglected!! I too have had floaters for a few years, i'm kind of used to them now but they definitely get worse the more stressed I am...and also worse when in bright weather...i went to the opticians to get them checked out so maybe worth a trip just to put your mind at ease xx

My gp said its normal after child birth but I had them before too. They just seem so much worse right now. I've also got this constant pressure behind my eye and headaches on one side of my head. I think they are stress/tension headaches, but me being how I am right now I think the worst and keep worrying about it which is probably making things worse

Hi Ella, Sorry to hear you are getting physical pain along with the anxiety and depression.
I have suffered from chronic headache for nearly 20 years and only recently has it been diagnosed as migraine. What you are describing sounds like classic migraine - one sided, behind the eye with preceding flashing lights. The lights is what gives it away. I don't have visual aura with mine, it's actually very uncommon. Only 2% of migraine sufferers have visual disturbances with their headache and only 14% of the population suffer with migraine. Also, a very common trigger for migraine is time of the month so all the shifts in hormones after giving birth which don't settle until around 3 months postpartum can be a huge trigger for migraine too.
Anyway, I am no expert so my advice would be to get yourself down to your GP, describe the headaches and flashing lights and ask to try some abortive migraine meds for when or if you have another attack. You can buy some over the counter but why shell out when you have a lovely maternity excemption card!
Oh and don't let your GP fob you off. Pain and anxiety can feed each other but just because the anxiety may have caused or triggered the pain doesn't mean the pain should be left untreated.
Let us know how you get on. X

Hi
I suffered from various visual disturbances. I had this pressure behind one of my eyes following a 24 hr blood vessel rupture, which didn't go for months. I also was quite sensitive to light and felt as if I had sand in my eyes. I started to see double - one image on top of the other when viewing ojbects in the distance.
Another symptom was feeling really spaced out as if I wasn't really here just sitting deep inside myself. I put this down to some sort of visual abnormality but apparently this is a typical depression symptom and nothing to do with the eyes.
I also started getting headaches, largely shooting pains inside my head which I'd never suffered from. Other symtoms include tingling and numbness on different parts of my body. It also felt as if my limbs didn't belong to my body.
One of the first symptoms was complete exhaustion but for no reason.
For me the turing point were antids. AFter a few weeks my anxiety symptoms appeared to lift - the headaches, numb patches etc. The pressure behind my eye lingered for a while. I also developed bad PMT and along with feeling very low emotionally I would feel very spaced out.
I hope this helps reassure you, but as bwp said it's always best to rule out any physical symptoms. For instance, thyroid issues can cause depression and lethargy andmay need specialised treatment to resolve. Do get your gp to give you a thorough mot.

Monica is right, get all physical problems ruled out.
There's a good reason that depression can cause pain and vice versa - serotonin the neurotransmitter involved in good mood which is not being used properly when someone is depressed also plays a big role in pain perception. I take tricyclic anti-d's at a low level for chronic pain (not at a therapeutic level for depression as I have come out the end of the long tunnel there) so it's no coincidence that Monica's pain and other physical symptoms responded well to them. They are very clever drugs and really important in recovery for many of us.
Hope we've been able to help you a bit.

That's fascinating bwp. I must tell my mate who has the same issue, perhaps she can get sorted

Specially when you say you felt like your limbs wern't attached. I have been for an eye test this week and all was ok. I hate all these symptoms, it's so hard to get your head around that these can all come from anxiety and PND

Hi Ella
Glad your eye test went well. I used to worry about brain tumours obsessively. I too had normal eye tests, though. Hang on in there - these symtpoms will pass although I do udnerstand how you feel - it is hard to believe that they can come from pni, but they can. Monica
