Hi I'm new to this and not sure it is PNI that I have but i thought I'd give it a go, I'll start from beginning, I had my daughter when I was 17 and suffered the baby blues and post natal depression which I recovered from (as I thought) then I went on to have my second child a boy at 21, when I was 6 months pregnant I had a panic attack which then went onto horrible sexual thoughts that something bad was going to happen to my daughter, as the time has gone on the thoughts have got worse and I literally don't know what else to do, I feel sick even writing this but it makes me feel like a vile mum, I hope someone can help thanks

Welcome Vicky
I'm sorry you're struggling with these thoughts. Intrusive thoughts such as the ones you're having are a symptom of PNI. Our trustee, Nat, has spoken in TV about her experience as she struggled with these, which can be triggered by reading a newspaper article or TV during a time when your hormones are all over the place. Someone described the thoughts to me as the mothering instinct going into overdrive when you see danger to your child even from yourself - even if you know you'd never ever harm your child.
You really are not alone in this so I'm hoping you feel reassured by that. Would you consider speaking to your dr? Therapy such as cognitive behavioural therapy can be excellent in helping you combat these thoughts as it teaches you to retrain your thought patterns . Distraction techniques can help. Antidepressants are also an option.
Please don't think you're alone. Keep talking x

Hello Vicky,
I just want to say you are not alone. I have sexual intrusive thoughts too that make me believe I'm a peadophile! I completely feel your pain but believe me I totally understand how it feels and I can assure you it gets better. It takes time (lots of time) but they get easier and easier and eventually they will go once you have fully recovered.
Sending you hugs
Kirsty x
