What's wrong with me?

I have a beautiful 2 month old son. Apparently he is perfect in every way but I just can't see it. I don't want to hurt him, in fact I don't feel anything for him or anyone else for that matter. I seem to be numb. I don't know if this is post natal depression because I don't have the anger that others talk of but I can't think what else it would be. I seem to be going through the motions but no longer living. When my son first smiled my husband melted, I didn't feel a thing. I have no sexual desire and the thought of my husband touching me is almost repulsive. I can't understand any of it because I used to be so much in love with life and now I just don't care. I look at the people around me and really don't care if they are their or not. I'm 24 and I've tried making myself feel again almost to the point of harming myself. I have everything, a fantastic husband who is soooo supportive and understanding, a fantastic career, this great little boy, but I don't know myself anymore. I've had to move interstate during my pregnancy and my family have not yet met my son and I don't have any friends in my new place. Perhaps it is the isolation that makes me feel like this but I'm not convinced. Please, does anyone have any ideas?
I owe my family more than this state of apathy...

Hi Gen

Sounds a lot like me. You need to get some help talk to your GP or health nurse. You don't have to feel like this. Do you have close friends and family you can talk to? There are also some excellent books available on PND. I have been on medication for a year now and still have some very dark days and thankfully now some good ones too. Get yourself some help and then you can start enjoying that precious wee one of yours. Email me if you'd like to
