Dear All
One of our members hanzak who has not been active on the forum as it is now but used to be when we had the forum on the 'beeseen' forum facility pre August 2002 has had her book on Post Natal Illness.
( least I think she was as I am assuming she was the same Elaine, difficult to be sure as all the posts on this incarnation of the forum were wiped out when the service closed - I am sure Elaine will be able to tell us)
It is called Eyes without Sparkle and it's published by Radcliffe Medical Press ISBN: 185775655X RRP: £16.95
Elaine suffered from the acute form of PNI, Puerperal Psychosis, but it just goes to show for me how related all forms of PNI are as she also suffered many of the symptoms, issues and concerns all of us with PNI suffer.
Elaine told me back in April 04 that she had a publisher but I have only today heard that it has now been published.
I am sure it will be a very useful book for sufferers and professionals alike to read.
All the best

Hi You can get the book from here www.radcliffe-oxford.com/books/bookdetail.asp?ISBN=1+85775+655+XIt is not yet on Amazon I looked this morning and becasue it is a book published by a medical publisher it is a bit expensive for the average reader as these days books are very cheap usually. As to Elaine's past posts she is a member of this forum - user name is Hanzak - but has never posted here since the forum used this server as she was recovered by the time we moved and while I did save posts from the Beeseen server when they were about issues generaly relavant to all - but I saved them anonomously so I do not know now who wrote what. I did not think it would be right to keep peoples details from so long ago. But hanzak is still a member of this forum and her e mail is under her profile so you could e mail her or PM her and I am sure she would not mind. Let me know if you are going to use PM and I will tell her to come on and look as she does not log on much. All the best Veritee

Thats fantastic & a great help to those out there who don't have access to computers or sites like this. I know woman do get support from there hv's & cpn's but when I 1st started with it, from my experience anyway they didn't, or weren't really aware THEN of what to advise or do to help me. There wasn't that much support in the professional field (I found at that time, 1999)or understanding of symptoms & all. I can remember my hv looking at me with bewilderment, & pychiatrist not of great help. I have read many threads on here & it clearly shows that professionals are now beginning to understand PNI a little more. Its a shame more don't get involved on this forum. But anyway, I'd love to read it. Jane x

Hi everyone!
I'm Elaine and I wrote the book! I am so very, very pleased that it does appear to be helping people - I've had messages from people who have/are suffering from PND at any level and they say that it has helped. I am very happy to hear what people think. I have been overwhelmed by the effect my book has had through media coverage, etc. So much so that I am taking a sabbatical leave from my teaching post until January to 'spread the word'. I'll be talking to students amongst other things, and will aim to improve services out there for everyone. If anyone knows of anywhere I may be of help please let me know. My best advice is to be kind to yourself and treat yourself as your own best friend - we try so hard to please others and leave ourselves out - go on, pamper yourself!! Much love Elaine XX

Hi Elaine
Its Lovely to hear from you and it is very heartening to hear that you have a
'sabbatical leave from my teaching post until January to 'spread the word'
This is great news as this issue really needs to be highlighted in some way and you are doing a lot - just yourself - to do this.
I have always wanted to find a way to pass on what I have learned about PNI from experiencing it and running this forum - but I never have actually got round to writing that book ( it would be from a very different perspective from yours as it would be not my story but about common themes, ie symptoms, ages, cultural/educational/professional/class background of sufferers have observed from this forum and what seems to help etc from anecdotal evidence and observation as well as some questionnaire research)
I always wanted to write this and do the talks! and while I have done the occasional talk in local colleges about PNI this is as far as I have got on this
I always resolve to try harder - but just never seem to have enough time but I guess if I really wanted to do this ie the book and talks - I would find the time as you always find the time for something you feel you have to do.
This is why I admire you so much as I know how hard it would be to write such a book - spending the long hours on it when you would not even know if it would be published!
Many women on this forum have bought and read your book and found it useful. It has been mentioned in other sections as well as this one since it has been published.
So congratulations again - and if their is anything I or anyone on this forum could do ( perhaps put you in touch with local colleges you could include on your sabbatical?)
Please let us know
All the best
Vertiee
