We now have NHS backing in the forum of a £3000 grant.
This is a grant from my local NHS Central Cornwall, Primary Care Trust and indirectly is also a statement of support from the social services because this grant is issued jointly with the local social services department.
There is no guarantee that we will receive this grant beyond the first year, but it is a great feeling to think that what we are trying to do is supported in this way.
The grant is actually from the 'Mental Health Self Help Budget' and has been awarded 'to establish the service'.
However these set up costs of the web site have been absorbed already.
Predominately by my husband, and assisted by myself a few friends who believe in what this site is trying to do, and a few users and their relatives who have kindly donated to keep the site going in the months since we have had a paypal 'donation' button (we have had approximately £200 in donations so far and the accounts are available for anyone who asks)
Therefore if I can convince the funders to let me do this I intend not to pay in retrospect these costs
( although I will have to use it to pay some outstanding hosting costs) but to use a some at least to improve the site and some of the rest to promote the issue of PNI locally and nationally, or indeed internationally!
And to set up and run a local pilot 6 week self help group in conjunction with Sure Start – to set up a local self help group was part of the initial application – to assess the need in this area or Cornwall.
I have not made any firm plans however so I am open to suggestions from any of the current members, which I would then put to the advisors group.
My own ideas of site improvement were not about improvements to the forum – which I feel runs OK as it is and while I would like to afford a private chat room rather than the public free facility we now have, as this is a one off grant with no guarantee of continuing I can not really do anything with the money which would entail any ongoing/annual costs.
But I have some ideas for the main site which I think will provide a better service for women with PNI and those organisations and individuals that are working with women suffering from PNI.
I have not got the money yet as I have to set up a bank account for PNI funds to revive it. The local mental health forum can hold it in their account for us – but we would rather have it in our own account.
Up to this point because bank accounts for organisations are more than for an individual I have held the donation money in a separate bank account but in my name, but I will open a bank account in the name of PNI.ORG and transfer the donations into it and get the cheque paid to this.
This all should take about a month so in the meantime if you have any suggestions for using the grant – please let me know.
All the best
