Hi there everyone,
Has anyone ever experienced feeling like they aren't breathing as they are falling off to sleep. I experience this and wake with a jump as if I am about to loose consciousness it's really scary. I also sometimes wake shaking all over.
Please help!!!!
Having a few bad days!!
Sann x

Hi Sann, Yes I have and still do sometimes - see here - others have experienced it too: veritee.proboards7.com/index.cgi?board=physical&action=display&n=1&thread=4098It's horrible isn't it? I don't always shake all over - but when I do I am visibly shaking - really strange. As I am about to drop off, it feels like my breathing has actually stopped for a moment - and that I might not get it started again? It does start again - usually have to sit or stand up though! Hate it! But don't worry - I think it's a sort of panic attack..? But do get it checked if you're worried Love Hopefulxxxxx

or it could be sleep apnoea, which is when you stop breathing in your sleep for a few seconds. both are easily treated though, so please dont worry x

hi sann
i used to get this alot and i call them 'sleep panics' as its as if your mind cannot or will not let you surrender to sleep. theyre really horrible as you awake with a start and feel awful and panicky, they do ease though - try to tell yourself that this is only another symptom of this stupid illness
here for you

Just wanted to reassure you that I too get this from time to time, cant say when or what triggers it particularly. I tend to get up when this is happening and do something like unlaod the diswasher or ironing or going on line, anything really to take my mind off it. Then I go back to bed after say ah hour and 90% of the time this works and I get off ok. Like many symptoms of this illness it is one I have developed a coping strategy for, it does not stop it from happening but it helps me to deal with it when it does, I hope it works for you too.
Love JDMx
