Hi Im really having problems with my sleep at the minute, i go to bed about 11.0 clock and dont get to sleep till at least 4 or 5 in the morning its really draining me out as i have a toddler and a 9 week old baby to get up for. It all started 2 weeks ago when i had taken my first anti-ds which was 20mg of citalapram that night i could not sleep so the next day i stopped taken them altogether and since then my sleep has gotten really bad to the point were i was thinking did that 1 tablet trigger post natal depression for the worst!!! as i was sleeping like a baby and not feeling this bad before it. So since then i have gone back on them again ' ( 7 days today ) hopeing that my sleep will get back to normal again but sadly its not. I went to see a doctor about this and he gave me some sleeping tablets, but i dont want to rely on them as i prefer natural sleep and also they are additive. Im just so fed up with feeling like this i feel like its never going to get better, i just wish i had'nt taken that 1 f**king tablet Im also not sure if the problems all in my head. I just dont know what to do. IM SO TIRED!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Michelle
Just wondering, what meds are you on and what time of the day do you take them?

I know citalopram can be quite energising and disrupt sleep, but you are definately right to take them in the morning. I would give it a couple of weeks as sleep disturbance can be a side effect of citalopram, and see if it settles down, it does for most x

Hi, My PNI first manifested itself as not being able to sleep, even though I was exhausted with four year old and newborn. I went to see doctor who prescribed Dosulepin. This is an anti-depressant (tricyclic) which helps you sleep. You take it at bedtime and it doesn't 'knock you out' as sleeping pills do, but it takes the edge off how you feel and makes you drowsy - thus helping sleep. I have been on them since Nov, and with three changes in dose - I am now on 75mg, I am feeling about 90% better. I sleep very well and life seems tolerable. They are NOT addictive and once things settle back down they are quite easy to come off.
If you really don't want anti-depressants, have you tried Badger Balm? Or Origins have some great balms/lotions which aid sleep.
Hope you start to feel better soon.

Hi there, Badger Balm is like a balm which you rub on your temples to help sleep. They have different balms for different stuff and there is a sleep one. Google badger balm and you will get a variety of sites where you can buy it. It costs about £5.
It really does work as well. I used it when pregnant to help sleep as I knew i couldn't have a glass of wine to relax me at night!!

This is just one place you can get it. I use the sleep balm for myself and you can get some called baby balm which helps to calm and soothe babies. Haven't used that one but I would give it a whirl. www.naturallyfabulous.co.uk/badger-balm-193-c.aspGood luck and take care. x

Hi Michelle,
I had a similar experience to you - 3 year old plus 8 week baby and unable to sleep due to breathing problems.
How are you doing now? I also was precribed sleeping tablets early on - but rarely used them as my husband had been ill and I didn't want to miss baby waking. But had he not been ill - I'd have taken them probably.
I started Fluoxetine in November and do nothing but sleep - after 3 years of insomnia, I was so pleased with this. I do sometimes wake early though, so take the pills first thing am.
Anyway, I just wanted to know how you were getting on?
Hopefulx

Hiya, Well at the minute im finding it hard to get to sleep . Last week i thought i was nearly getting there as for 3 nights i was falling asleep quicker but that did'nt last. Im not sure if periods can play havoc with no sleep? i just hope so. At the minute im using ear plugs , lavender oil and warm milk and i've just sent away for that Badger Balm that rahelk mentioned. I'l try anything to get back to normal sleep. I so hate this sleep problem, cant believe im on the anti-ds 2 weeks and a couple of days and still cant snap out of this sleep problem. The funny thing is just before this i used to sleep like a baby, but i tell you having this problem i'll never take sleep for granted again.
Does anyone know how many weeks it takes to get back to a little bit of normal sleep or even what week should the ant-ds start kicking in were sleep is concerned. Any advice would much be appreciated......Cheers girls

Michelle, Anti-depressants can take a while to have an effect. I know that mine didn't really ease my depression/anxiety/panic attacks for probably about a month. BUT, if you aren't sleeping any better I would urge you to talk to your doc about Dosulepin as that is an anti-d which is specifically designed to help with sleep (as well as depression). I have been on this since Nov and although it didn't kick in in terms of easing depression for approx a month, it gave me immediate relief in terms of sleep. I really would advice it to anyone with sleep probs and my doc really likes it as a anti-d for people with sleep problems.
Good luck and hope the badger balm helps in meantime.
Rach
