What's On: Emotional And Delicate Dec 1 2007
Documentary Of The Week Help Me Love My Baby Monday, Channel 4, 8pm How A New Mum Is Getting Help To Recover From Post-Natal Depression
They say being a mother is a wonderful thing but, let's face it, for many pregnancy can be an absolute nightmare.
Not everyone can have a blissful nine months, thanks to morning sickness, backache, swollen ankles, high blood pressure and all manner of other discomforts.
Then there's the labour itself. Nothing can prepare a first-time mum for the experience but at the end of nine months, hopefully there's the same result - a bouncing, beautiful, healthy baby to care for.
However, for a percentage of mums, the overwhelming desire to love this newcomer isn't instantaneous - far from it.
Many women admit to not forming a bond with their infant until days or even weeks after the birth - and for some it can even be longer.
This two-part programme lifts the lid on the horrors of postnatal depression, and follows parent-infant therapist Dr Amanda Jones as she works with Zoe Hicks and her daughter Izzy. Zoe has come forward and asked for help in bonding with her daughter, an emotional and delicate process. Fans of The House of Tiny Tearaways will know some issues surrounding little ones are a direct result of parental behaviour. Here it's a similar issue.
Problems in the past that have had a direct impact on these women's feelings of anger and resentment toward their young children have to be overcome - but they get support, guidance and assistance from Jones.
Only when the issues within their own lives have been resolved can the ladies begin to repair the relationships with their offspring and create the maternal bond that's missing.
But this isn't just going to be about getting closure on the past. The mums will also get an insight into the confusing world of baby behaviour. They will learn a few of the secret signals and body language that will help them understand their infants better, and hopefully bring two members of the same family closer together for good.

I found it very moving. I thought it took a lot of bravery by the mum in the programme and I totally respect the contribution she has made

Hi All,
This is being repeated on Channel 4 on the 20th January at 4.05am - the first episode anyway which IMO was the better one on PNI. My Sky+ picked it up as I had it on series link last time. Thought I'd let you know so you can set your recorders (or stay up:)) and watch it if you missed it last time. If I see when they're putting on the next one I'll let you know but I guess it'll always tell you at the end of the programme if you watch it.
Bobyn x

I watch a little bit of it while I was feeding josh but I was too tired to watch it all. Plus I was getting dirty looks off the other half because he cant sleep with the tv on.
Its was the one with twins. It looked really interesting I just wish I could have watched it.
