Hi everyone
I will put this under moderators announcements as well.
Deborah and I have been toying with the idea of a PNI get together, but as we are all so far apart we would have to stay somewhere and none of us have the room to put up more than two members at a time plus maybe children if they wanted to bring them.
Because I live in a rural holiday area - Cornwall - I suggested looking into hiring a few caravans or chalets near me at the end of the season so it would be cheaper ie late September or early October. And do this over a weekend say 3 days Saturday to Tuesday (holiday places prefer this as if you take up a Friday it blocks the previous weeks let.
The place nearest to me I am thinking of is www.retanna.co.uk have a look at it.
So that I did not need accommodation it would have to be near me so I can visit easily and the group could come back to my house for a big meal one night.
Also this way woman who go on the forum from Cornwall could visit the group while we are here also.
What do those of you who are from Cornwall think? – would you like to meet Debs and others? Would anyone like to play host to the group in their home or take us to your local beach or pub or restaurant while they are here? If there is enough interest would any other from Cornwall like to help me arrange some sort of program or be around on site to welcome the group?
Anyway I have looked into hiring Caravans on a holiday park just under 2 miles from me.
What do people think?
Can you let me know if anyone would be interested by adding to this thread and if so what rough dates, whether they would bring their children etc?
I was thinking that if we did it this year and it worked out perhaps next year or even in the spring someone else from a different part of the Country could arrange the same and we could go there.
Say next year we could arrange to stay somewhere as a group near Deborah, Mel, Jessica or whoever else wanted to host it. Obviously as the person nearest where we decided to go would have to arrange the booking collect the money etc so they would have to be into doing it.
I thought to try it out for the first time and because I live in a tourist area it would be best for me to get the ball rolling.
Before considering this, please note the following:
You would need a car or to arrange to share with someone before hand both to get there as neither Cornwall in general or the place I am considering is accessible by public transport, and to get around when you are here.
The weekend would be for a general get together and a socializing weekend and maybe to discuss some of the issues in a general way. It would not be therapy in any way.
Sorry to point this out but I do think the purpose would have to be made clear so that everyone has an enjoyable and relaxing time.
Because of this it may not be suitable for anyone who would find some of it stressful i.e. traveling and being away from home with people who are in part, strangers as we have not met in person, coping perhaps with children, either your own or others and the stresses of a long weekend.
I do not mean to be patronizing and certainly understand if it would be to stressful for some to consider as one of the reasons I have offered to host it this year near me is that I think this would apply to me. I am still not feeling well enough after my accident to do a weekend away with people I have not met face to face and because I need disabled access at times and am no longer used to young children I would find it too much myself to stay in a Caravan with others under these circumstances as yet . So I thought I had better point out a weekend like this may not be a good idea for everyone.
However I would expect anyone to make their own mind up about this, and onluy put their name down if they would enjoy it and it would not add to the stress they are already under with PNI.
After all their is always next year and if this goes well I hope to be feeling able to meet the group on a weekend next year in someone else’s part of the country. So if you do not feel up to it now you may next time!
As to cost? From what I have found out so far the cheapest I have found is to hire Caravans with three twin bedrooms which would sleep up to 6 ie 3 women and three children or if some did not bring children up to 4 or 5 adults if they would share a room.
This would cost about £60 each for 3 days and this could go up a little and does not include travel and food etc.
Of course if anyone would prefer not to share and could afford they could hire their own perhaps smaller caravan on the site but they would then pay the full amount.
If this does not suit but you would still like to meet we could look at other options. If people do not like caravans I could see if a small hotel down on their bookings mid week in October will take us or we could even look into a hosting system.
What I mean is that perhaps some of us in this area put up others for a few days. For instance I could sleep about 3 adults and 2 children at a push and, maybe others have a spare room.
Next year we could then exchange?
If price was prohibitive to most we could leave it till next year and I will try to get a grant for it. Funding can be got for holidays for women and children especially if I can use the PNI as a reason.
Anyway let me know what you think?
It could be that no one likes the idea at all – I just thought I would put it to you to see if there is any interest and if I should look into accommodation further and what kind of accommodation etc.
