MRI's, echocardiograms, and portable ECG's things!

Hiya ladies,
Me again! lol

Well, I got my appointment for my echo, it's on Thursday at 9am.
I've just had my referal done for my MRI, which will hopefully give some more answers about my back...

Oh and the cardiologist wants me to wear a portable ECG thing to record the racing of my heart. Has anyone else had one of these? Is it big? Do you have to relax and not do anything when it's on?
They are fitting me with it 3 days before my birthday! Oh Joy!

Hubby's had that fitted in the past for 24 hrs at a time (and had the MRI scan too). He was in hospital when he had his on - and we did have a row in the cafeteria actually (how awful am I? ) but I was not in a good state with 2nd pregnancy and he was very poorly for a time and I was very anxious!! The row did not register on his readout (LOL) as he asked the consultant whether it had (grrrr) - so I think you can go about things reasonably normally....? But they may want different for you hun.

I have had the mri scan and it doesnt hurt at all and is quite nerve racking but they will help you through that i know they are quite good, i had emergency one done when i injured my back and had to be rushed to theatre but they dont hurt.
I had a ecg done on my heart but wasnt portable but again it doesnt hurt and my friend had the portable one and had to wear it for two weeks. It goes into a little pouch that you wear on your trousers were ever really and it covers the rate of your heart. She said that wasnt really uncomfortable just more annoying that she has to wear it constantly for them to get a reading of it. But she was asked to just carry on with her daily life and she had some tests done with it on ie on the treadmill and exercise bike etc just to give clear reading but im sure they will advise what they want from you.

Thanks for your replies. Yeah I think I will just have to wait and see what happens, it's not until next year so I'm not going to worry just yet.

I'm pretty sure it was just the stress of the pregnancy to be honest, because I'm not having the same problem as much now, and all my ECG's have been normal.

Did you have them thru your pregnancy too - so did I!!
I felt fine though - just couldn't breathe!

Yeah I did, I could breathe not too bad, it was more the waking up and my heart racing that I didn't like.
It would start for no reason when I was resting, scary!

I thought it was just me that went from chill to panic in 0-60secs - very strange. But this is why I feel so strongly that PNI is not just 'in the head' - either prenatally or postnatally. Hormones and our biology/ chemistry must play havoc with our bodies when pregnant/ having had a baby.?? What do you think?
My GP said that testing hormones is quite a subtle operation - which I'm sure it is - is this why PNI is so misunderstood?
Maybe we should start a thread hunni?

Your right, I would never accept anybody saying that PNI is 'in the head', it's really not, it affects every part of you.
I know my Grandma's way of 'helping' me was to tell me to pull myself together and to stop been so stupid, I think her words were 'grow up and stop acting like a spoilt brat'.....hmmmmm not very helpful at all.

I can get stressed very easily, I wasn't like that before I got PNI, I've always been a worryier, but nothing like I am now, hmmmmm. I think I said on another post, I have a vision in my head of how I want my day/event to go....usually something completely unrealistic like the Waltons, and if something goes wrong, I get quite panicky n breathless quite quickly! I'm pretty sure it's linked with the feeling of needing to be the 'perfect' parent that seems so common with PNI, do you think?
