I am a bit fed up of the same old dinners for us (rather than the kids) – anyone got any quick and easy solutions/ ideas?
One that I tried a couple of weeks ago (I am not into cooking really at all, just like the idea of being good at it and love watching food programmes!!), was creamy potatoes – very fattening but the ultimate comfort food…
Grease an ovenproof dish and layer peeled potatoes – sliced to the thickness of a pound coin In between each layer slice some fresh garlic Finally cover the whole dish with a huge pot of double cream (so potatoes covered) Cook at about 160 for and hour and a half….and watch your waistline grow
Really yummy and filling! Gorgeous with meat and veg.
By the way Susanne, I tried the tuna pasta bake with hula hoops on top…Mmmmmm, lol!

I have lots of good recipes as I love cooking but sometimes just adding different things to food makes them better. Celery in spaghetti bologanase is yummy, and adding wostershire sauce and brown sauce to mince meat for a sheppards or cottage pie makes it taste really nice, if you add mustard powder or sum mustard to the mash for the top aswell gives it a really spicy taste, its yummy!

Not for those dieting: I did steak on a bed of blue cheese mash - dead easy
mash potatoe (use maris piper or desiree for best results) - using a knob of butter and spalsh of milk or cream and crumble in a chunk of good blue cheese (blue stilton has more flavour than danish blue).
Gravy - brown off red onions (thinly sliced) add spalsh of red wine, water from any veg if you have any on the go, juices off the steak, dash of worcestershire sauce and gravy granules etc to thicken to your desired consistency. Yummy!
Enjoy!
Guess you could use sausages instead of steak for a cheaper option too.

Hi Emily/ YoYo Thanks. When I first met my husband when I was 29, the only things in my fridge were - beans, tuna, cheese, potatoes, milk and wine....I need a few ideas, lol!! Hey Emily, the celery in spag bol sounds a great idea, really healthy too. I saw a programme the other night which suggested adding carrots to bol - so I'm going to try both. I use lamb because I don't like beef, but if you drain off the fat and add some red wine , it is lovely comfort food! YoYo, mash is a fave of mine - I've done mustard mash, onion mash (gorgeous) ...and altho' I am addicted to blue cheese - have never actually made my own blue cheese mash - gonna try this tomorrow, thanks Love Hopefulxx
