Hi Clare
I'm on Sertraline 100mg now, and to tell you the truth I feel really awful and think it is these meds. I don't sleep hardly at all, and I can't think what I am doing, cant remember anything. I feel light headed and faint most of the time. And I am frightened to go out, and have an inner tremor most of the time too. Because the Psychiatrist at the hospital gave them to me I am told by the gp to keep taking them until my next apt with the Psych on 11th Feb. Then I am hoping to get changed onto something else.
Not all antid's are awful. A lot of the girls on here take them and get on fine. It sometimes takes a bit of juggling to find the right one which suits you. There are lots of makes, and its pot luck if they choose one which suits you straight away. Expect a bit of side effect for the first little while at least, [but a bearable side effect] some side effects settle down after your system gets use to them.
Don't give up on them all together. Pop to the gp or who ever prescibes for you and ask about trying something else. When you find the right one and they kick in [which can sometimes take a few weeks] then life does get better.
Keep strong. Jay xx

Hi Clare
I am on setraline too. I had a few teething probs but all in all I feel a vast improvment. I have epilespy and had to find one which didnt affect my meds for that.
Dont give up ong it. Sometimes after a week of takin them you see a turnaround. My doc told me that it takes at least 5 days for the meds to go into your system so not to stop till after 2 wks if they are still adverse.
I'm sure you will find something suitable. keep trying.

jay the way u explained how setraline is making u feel is exactly the same as i was feeling it was awful i was told by the phychatrist to stay on it and that i should expect some side effects but i couldnt handle feeling like that. The 3rd day i took them i went to the supermarket and couldnt go inside i was so panicky i started crying and went home! i felt like i was walking round in a dream. went back to gp yesterday he has given me fluoxetine and says i should see a pychotherapist. i find taking meds so hard am terrified so am going to wait to the weekend when my family are around to start the new ones. if anyone else is scared of taking meds we could maybe support each other during the next feww weeks. clare x

Dear Clare,
I found Fluoxetine worked for me - I felt a difference within the first week (GP had said that some feel a difference early on, but may need it upping later) - but it was about 5/6 weeks before I really started to feel better/ side effects lessened.
Stick with it - I know it's hard.
Take care, Hopefulxx

Hi Clare I go on Monday and hope to get a change of meds then, so I'll see what I get and we will check in and chat how we do with them if you like? I'm down to 50 mg now and have been on this for the past week, so I'm on the way to the change over.
Hope your new meds suit you better. Keep going with them and hopefully you will pick up soon. A lot of antid's have an early reduction in panic and anxiety, and the depression part sometimes takes a bit longer to kick in.
Take care Jay xx

Hi Clare I started Trazalone 50mg last night. These are sedating antid's so when I get up to a higher dose they should sleep me. Hopefully!
I am promised that I will be helped to sort this a bit more, and that if these don't work for me they will change them sooner rather than later.
How do you feel now with these meds?

Hiya Claire
How are you doing with the meds??
I was naughty and stopped my antid's for 2 nights thinking that I was not going to take them anymore, but I have given in and dutifully and doubled the dose. I am not convinced that they are the right ones for me. Its a bit of the case of --can't live with them, but also can't live without any!!! Anyway I agreed to keep going as I am told they can't help me if I don't try them. Even when I explain that I feel the side effects are killing me, but 'hay ho', who are we to comment - we are just the ones who have to swallow them!
Hope you feel a bit better soon.
Would it help you if you joined up so you could 'log on' then you could talk to people by private messaging, and chat more and make friends - just a thought if you felt chatting more would help.
Take care Speak soon Jay x
