hi all,
was wondering if anyone has tried using affirmations or the like in dealing with their PNI and what the outcome was. Currently I've been saying to myself each morning as i get out of bed "today will be a success" instead of "o god, why does the baby want to get up at 4am, I'm knackered". This has been helping me set myself up for a good day instead of setting me up to fail before i've even begun
Also, I've been looking in the mirror and saying "I am healed and whole" and when i'm starting to panic i say to myself "i am calm and collected". This has really helped.

I have just read a fantastic book which will really help with this. It is called 'Don't Sweat the Small Stuff - and it's all small stuff' by Richard Carlson. It is fantastic. It teaches you to look at things in a new light and is almost like a religion! It has really helped me and I recommend it to anyone wanting to 'think positive'.

Was anyone else recommended the 'overcoming' series (Robinson) by their GP? What did you think? I'm on my forst book....I think it's based on CBT?

ta Rachel...i'll see if i can pick up a copy. I'm very into books too, one i'm re-reading is the Louise Hay "you can heal your life" it has lots of affirmations and positive thinking in. Also the title of ur reccomendation reminds me of a quote i found, not sure who it's by but i've been finding it useful lately:
"worry gives a small thing a big shadow"

Like the quote. It is a good book for when you start to feel better. I couldn't have faced it a few months ago, but enjoy reading it now.

Hello Someone on here recommended the Overcoming Depression book to me. It is CBT based. I read it and understood it straight off and it really helped me whilst I was waiting for one-to-one CBT sessions and waiting for psychiatrist appointments.
I did do affirmations a little bit - wrote them down on my PC and looked at them rather than saying them to myself. Although a good one for me was "I have coped for 21 months and will cope again today" (and kept up-ing that as the days went on). OK for 21 months I was barely functioning but nothing disastrous had happened like I always imagined and once I saw that it started to become clearer and less fraught, and reminding myself of it really really helped me.
