My youngest now 7 m is breast fed. Only a morning and evening feed. At this he will take both sides and fall asleep in the evening and appear content when finnished in am.
About 2 hrs after his am feed he wants breakfast which he gets some sort of porrige etc with fruit thro it.
Lunch he gets a carbohydrate based feed such as chicken lentil soup etc and then a second course of yoghurt or fruit
Generally a biscuit and drink snack time
Tea time another carbohydrate based mean. Veg pasta and cheese sauce then second course fruit or youghurt.
Breast feed b4 bed (anytime I've expressed I get about 9oz)
Thats his basic day food wise. He has now started waking up thro the night. Desperately sprawling and searching for my breast as soon as I pick him up. Theres just no consoling him. Its not so much a temper as desperation in the cry. You know how you know the diff when they are still so young.
So my thinking. IS he hungry? Can he possibly be? Should I try giving him some sort of food b4 bedtime, like and hr b4 or something. I was afraid to give him a sore tummy if I did but he just wont settle. He genuinely seems hungry. He also wakes the whole house, my toddler inc and thats hell to pay if he does. Like a bear with a sore head!
HELP - advice desperately required!!!!!

Hi hun,
He could be a wee bit hungry. I fed my LO in the night until he was one year old and he drank a full bottle, which I have stopped now (still don't get any sleep though). You could give him a little bit of baby cereal before bed or a bit of yoghurt. I used to mix baby cereal in his last bottle, or some baby rice like WG suggested ~ not too much that it sits on his tummy all night, but enough to satisfy him a bit longer than the bottle does.
Sounds like he's eating just fine, eats more than mine does ;D

Hi girls, well I tried it he had milk in richteas. It made no diff!
I think he is still ill tho. Should I try something a bit more substancial? Whats too much? I'm worried about giving him something too heavy. Would some cereal or something be ok?
Yep Scarlet he def eats, thats something hes good at lol. U should see the bite marks round my nipple from him being starved at 3 in the morning!!

Could it be teething that's waking him and then he wants something to settle??

I would sometimes give my little one some porridge about an hour before bed - just a bit - to be honest I'm not sure it made mcuh difference but I felt I'd tried something

it might be worth checking to see if hes teething coz he may still be looking to your breast as a source of comfort as well as nutrition, so i would want to rule that out. try a bowl of cereal or even a formula milk for hungry babies (i know it was a Godsend for cavan and me!). he could also be confusing wind with hunger, as they are similar gurgly rumbly sensations (v. scientific i know lol), so try some anti wind remedy too x

Cheers girls for the advice,
Rumbly gurgly lol.
I reckon he does see me still as a comfort. He has a peri-anal abcess which appears to be flaring up again and I reckon he's in alot of pain. Lately he will just sit in my arms facing toward me and cuddle in. He sits for ages with his head resting on me. I really feel sorry for the poor love. Hes such a grump and hes normally a happy baby so somethings up. had a check of the teeth and theres no sign of any, athough he'll bite away so the're must be more on the way.
he slept well last night tho. So fingers crossed hes getting used to settling himself. He has a dummy which he seems to be really takin to lately. I had hoped to substitute the breast for it, and it seems to be goingin the right direction. We have also been doing this controlled crying thing.
Cheers girls xx

Hiya I was going to suggest giving him a formula feed before bed, or during the night to save your nipples (at my antenatal classes the woman was telling us all the evils of formula milk and she reckoned that it coating the stomach and making them feel full was a bad thing!! My bub was bottle fed though and she seems ok!) Joking apart, yes I know breast is best but if it helps you and your boobs get through the night it might be worth it. If you think it's comfort which with a peri anal abcess (owww) is very likely, poor wee mite, can your GP not do anything? Don't they drain them to give some relief? Sounds like it's making him pretty miserable. Hope you have a better night xx

Hi,
Well its gone from bad to HELL!
I've concluded its either a mass teeth session or that awful bum of his! The last 2 nights hes screamed and screamed and screamed. I keep expecting the police at the door wondering if we were murdering him. Theres just no consoling him.
i think it could be the bum. We had the hosp with it and the surgeon said that if they do an op theres a good chance it will just reoccur again. It has already and the plan is that if they wait as long as they can it will hopefully either widen the passage or be big enough to cut out. (its basically a channel/gland in his bum which is not discharging fully and become infected. It now apparently has a blind end and is getting less discharge than b4, it was bursting out thro the skin but now its going into his back passage they think)
If hes not better 2nite i'm going to take him to the doc I think. Hes been bunged up and cant poop properly and they did say that it will put pressure on the bit. I just dont know what to do anymore. I seems all I di makes no difference. I'm also starting ot look like a zombie!
Cheers for the support, I'll let u know what the doc says
xx

Well I got an app no bother. Except she says there nothin obvious. theres no sign of anything at all she did a full check and cant find a thing. So hes eother being a littl C**t or hes got a sore bum. She did say sometimes constipation can gaive some of them real bad tummy ache and some get really upset. Shes seen them as bad that they wont sleep. So it may just be that. I'm going to make an effort to keep him thin to see if that makes a diff.
But she did say if hes no better in a few days then to take him back as it may be his bum. Even my MIL said today the way he was screaming theres got to be something wrong its not just a tantrum cry. Otherwise I give up, I've no idea whats wrong.
Just pray he has a good night for me plz guys. I need the sleep. Starting to look like cruela! xxx
