You would think that after having three children that i would already know the answer to this one but my middle daughter is baffling me. As far as i was aware children had 20 teeth including 8 molars - correct me if im worng. BUT I noticed the other day that my 3 year old has really white gums at the back on the top and bottom as if teeth are sitting there. The point is though that she already has all of her teeth and so i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am going to see my hv today and so i am going to ask her and see what she says.
Any thoughts are welcome Time

Hi Time Im no baby expert at all but you are of course right about the 20 teeth - I looked it up - see a teeth eruption chart here: www.ada.org/public/topics/tooth_eruption.asp A couple of suggestions , but I do not really know. Hopefully your HV will be able to tell: It could be wisdom teeth, some have them sitting there under the skin for years but I am not sure at what age is the earliest they can form, I did nto think this early. I have them but they sat there as long as I can remember - but I obvouly never got wise enough as I am in my 50s and they never emerged, I wish they woulod I couuld do with them now to chew! - and some never have them form at all. They could be something called 'Natal Teeth' see here www.drgreene.com/21_766.htmlThese sometimes ahve to be removed if they get in teh way of feeding. Sorry I can't help more all the best Veritee

Hi all
Sorry i haven't replied sooner to this but I did check with the HV and she just said that they were probably just her adult teeth that are sitting there. She said that some children do have adult teeth just under the gums even at this age and not to worry about it. i wasnt worried anyway - more curious as it was something that i hadnt come accross before.
thanks again
