constant whinging, high pitched screaming, angry and irritable - is this common for teething? Its begining to drive me totally mad. Wot a temper. I have given her teething crystals - do these work? pour them in the mouth and they eat them? I dont see how this is helping as there doesnt seem to be any improvement on giving them. What else can i do. I've given her calpol, teething rings, bonjela and now the crystals. Izzy is a very unhappy baby and im begining to turn into an extremely unhappy mummy, I am so drained with it. I know it isnt her fault but how do I get through this? the only time she is happy is when she is asleep. Lana

Well what you describe was certainly true for me when Caja was teething. When teething I had to deal with a very cranky, angry often screaming baby who nothing comforted - except perhaps constant rocking in my arms which was tiring for me. However other things also made her like this such as sickening for a bug or cold, and ear infection ( is your bab pulling at ears or holding them? ) How long has this episode been going on? Although it takes a while to cut a tooth , usually the pain comes and goes every few days - or this was my experience - so if it is continuous, perhaps it could be something else? You can usually get a clue from where their hands go when they are upset ie ears, mouth, tummy. If it has been going on for more than a few days - have you taken Izzy to the doctor? If you are certain she is not ill otherwise ( or if she is but does not require further treatment) Apart from what you have tried the only other thing I can suggest is Medised. Have you tried it? This like Calpol contains paracetamol, but as the name suggests is also contains an ingredient that helps a baby sleep. This is a mild ingredient similar to antihistamine which has the effect of drowsiness. ( this ingredient also acts as a mild anti emetic/nauseant if your baby feels sick so I found it good all-round when I had tried everything else} See here for details crosspharmacy.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=1008&cat=87&page=1I know we should not use something routinely that makes babies sleepy but it is sold in all chemists and I found as a last resort when I really needed to get some rest that it worked really well! When she was teething or had an ear infection it really helped us both get some rest which we needed All the best Veritee

thanks for the replies. Izzy now has 2 bottom teeth right next to each other. They are very cute, make her smile even sweeter now but god is it hard work putting up with the teething.
Im hoping for a bit of a rest now that she has had those come through but she doesnt seem to be letting up. I just feel so drained by the end of the day with all the moaning.
Well anyone else's bubs going through teething at the moment - you have my full sympathy.

hi All
I too am going through the trials and tribulations of a teething baby. I use Medised at bed time to help her to sleep. It used to knock my eldest child out but the others dont seem to be affected the same, it just seems to help to keep them asleep. It was actually a GP who recomended it to me after numerous sleepless nights.
Anyway, I am currently dealing with the cranky child with the rosey cheeks and the sore bum as well as the dribbling. She has her two bottom teeth and one of the top ones altho it is not a front top one it is off to one side so it looks pretty cute in an odd sort of way!
Anyway good luck to the other fellow mothers with the cranky children.
