Hi there I need some advice! Chloe has just got her first 3 teeth (at long last! She's 11mths old now!) but I cant find out if I should be brushing her teeth or not. Some sites say to yet others ssay not until she's about 18mths. I cant get to my hv at the mo but I just wondered if other people brushed their babies teeth at this age and if so did you use chidlrens toothpaste. Dont know what to do! Thanks everyone Marion. ;D

D'you know Marion, I'm useless - as I've had 2 children and I can't remember!!!! My second though, I seem to vaguely recall, wanted to 'copy' my eldest when she was cleaning her teeth - so he's been having a go at copying for a while. My hubby also gives his little teeth a gentle brush and we also let both of them clean ours sometimes as this seemed to give them further incentive to do their own.
Can't put a date on it though - but probably around 16 -18 months?
Love Hopefulx

Thanks Hopeful - think I'll hold off on the brushing for a while yet - the prospect of Chloe getting toothpaste all over herself and me doesnt fill me with joy anyway! Think I'll leave it a while longer! Love Marion

Hi marion,
Nathan is now 1yr old and has had teeth since he was about 8 months i think! i have brushed his teeth (and my other kids too) as soon as they have teeth, nothing too brutal just really to get him in the habit of doing it and now he knows when he goes in the bath that he gets his teeth brushed. I use a tiny tiny dot of kids toothpaste too.
Hope this helps.

Hi Marion, Well done Chloe on three teeth! S has now got 5 teeth (they started late but now they seem to keep coming at a rapid rate). I started brushing straight away with water, like Sarah says just to get her into the habit of her having the brush in her mouth. To be honest at the start it wasn't very successful (J resorted to holding her upside down, which she loves, to get the brush in her mouth). The dentist told me not to use toothpaste til she was older in case she swallowed loads, but I've started using a tiny bit of the milk teeth baby toothpaste and she's now more enthusiastic about letting me brush them so I guess she likes the taste!
Hope that helps.
Love

ive never had any trouble with brushing cavans teeth. i used baby toothpaste as soon as the first teeth were through, and i also brushed the gums at the back to get him used to the brush going in that far. now every morning and night he comes to me with the toothbrush and paste and stands on a little blue step so he can reach the sink.
