Yes that is right. They want to catch girls before they are sexually active and before they have been potentially exposed to the virus.
I think that it can offer some protection even if you have been exposed to it - but much more limited and it is not worth the cost of it to the NHS in terms of potential reduction in cervical cancer. So this is why at 19 when it comes out my child will be too old. But if anyone is interested it is available even now privately to anyone who can pay for it.
But as my daughter is unlikely to have been exposed - I will not go into details but it is unlikely she has been exposed to the virus so I am considering paying for her to have the jab even though she is nearly 19

I think I read about the trial in the local hospital or something and took it from there. Have to admit it wasnt the nicest thing to go through, loads of needles, blood tests and smears every six weeks! But glad I did my bit for women.
Never thought about paying for the jab. Good that you can get it privately for those who just miss the boat!

Paying foring privately is a good thing I think, but I guess it would be rather expensive.
I know nothing about cervical cancer, how you get it or anything, so I must have a look so i understand a bit more.
Yes winegirl you should feel proud that you did your bit. Imagine how many women you may have saved!
