Just a brief note while I think of it.
I had a docs appointment last week and I asked him loads of questions about how, when and if I will ever come off my Anti Ds because we want to try for another baby later in the year and I was worried I would get ill again.
He told me that there is no anti D that has known problems during pregnancy although there hasn't been any extensive reasearch into it but they do have to record any problems with pregnancy and meds that the mother is taking. So he basically said to me that most gps will try not to prescribe anti Ds during pregnancy but you can take them if need be.
I just thought this might be useful to some people as it is definatly something that worries me after having suffered.

Hi gizmoracer,
I just thought I would let you know that I took 20mg of Prozac throughout my 1st pregnancy and 40 mg in my second. I would like another baby and am on 60 mg of Citalopram but would be happy to go for it on the Anti D's as neither of my 2 have suffered any adverse reactions from my being on the tablets.
Just thought I would let you know.

Thanks Larsbars its good to hear from someone who's been there. I am on 20mg citalopram at the moment but should be off it before I concieve anyway. I was thinking about what would happen if I got bad during the pregnancy and needed to go on it again. I have also had prozac but found it didn't help me at all. My main concern was that I was taking prozac when I fell pregnant a second time with a baby that I miscarried. The gp has reasurred me that the meds had nothing to do with that which is good to know.

Thanks for this thread - I have asked my GP the same thing and was told that I couldn't take Prozac whilst being pregnant - they were thinking of putting me back on it cos they know it works for me but we want to start trying at the end of the year for LO2 and I didn't want to have to come off it again (cos that was hard work).
However, they didn't suggest much else, so at least I can suggest to them other things instead now!

when I fell with my 1st I was in Seroxat which is the controversial drug that Panorama has been covering. It was fine for me but a complete no no during pregnancy. My dr had no hesitation about changing me to another med and it was the same with the 2nd and I was on a higher dose. The trouble with pregnancy and drugs is that they can't do any trials so it is never set in stone as to what is wrong and right. They have to base their advice on what has worked for other women during pregnancy and whether they have had any problems. One doctor will tell you that it is fine to take anti d's during pregnancy and another will be really sceptical but all of them should base their decision on what is best for the mother. If your doctor really doesn't want you to have them it is worth seeking a second opinion. Based on your past history they shouldn't have any problem giving them to you but my advice would be to insist rather than let yourself suffer when you don't need to if you aqre comfortable taking them.
