The 99 worst things to say to someone who is depressedwww.hbcprotocols.com/99things.htmlSome people trivialize depression (often unintentionally) by dropping a platitude on a depressed person as if that is the one thing they needed to hear. While some of these thoughts have been helpful to some people (for example, some find that praying is very helpful), the context in which they are often said mitigates any intended benefit to the hearer. Platitudes don't cure depression

18. "You think you've got problems..."
Oh, so often said by a family member who then reels off a list of her problems..usually regarding how poor she is..must be awful to have a new house, new car and make more money in a month than I do in ayear!!

91. "Go out and get some fresh air... that always makes me feel better."
Couldn't do this 2 years ago and people kept telling me too!

My pscychiatrist when i mentioned PMT (not PNI sorry) says well some people( women) think it helps to take a bath!! Yeah right !!! Also he doesn't believe PMT exsists? No chance for PNI then?

A bath?? Yeah for period pains maybe but for pushing a person out of you? Not so effective! Would you have your appendix out with no anaesthetic? NO, so why remove a baby with none? (Shaking my head) A bath, oh that's marvellous!

lol me too. I had my first in Germany and they were totally into natural birthing methods. The MW ran a bath for me and I was in too much agony to get in and my waters broke just as I put in my foot.. With the second I had no pain relief either.. I'm not sure a bath would work for PNI though, perhaps the psychiatrist meant to pamper yourself....It's always those who have never suffered that come up with the brightest ideas isn't it..

I can remember when the labour pains were really bad [and no anesthetist was available for and epidural!!!!] I thought 'Oh I had better try the getting in the bath thing to help the pain', I could remember them telling me a bath helps. Well by the time I got in, I got stuck on my hands and knees in the water, and the pain went mad, OH panicked and pulled the cord, a nurse came and sponged warm water over my back asking me if it was helping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then they had the job of getting me out.
I wished I had not bothered!

Bath isnt big enough really for birth pain, birth pools are great though The thing I least needed to hear was my so called frined who I have supported in the past telling me that I should stop taking the tablets if they were making me feel rough so I could get back to the gym with her !!! Amazing how even those who have suffered can turn their backs isnt it Liz x

reading this the tears are streaming down my face - i have just admitted to myself and my health visitor that something isn't right. you don't know how many times in the last few months i have heard all of these things and wanted to scream, hide under the duvet or just simply smash the person over the head with the nearest object (quite often one of my children) the relief to hear other people feel the same is enormous - although i wouldn't wish it on anyone. thanks xxxxx

I must admit that he birthing pool did help a bit in the early stages of labour, was about 4cm, had just been allowed my gas and air and plonked into the pool, hubby says it was the funniest thing he'd ever seen. His once svelte girlfriend, stark naked, ballooned with pregnancy, boobs resting on my belly, stubbly pits and a forest of pubes slouched against the side of the pool sucking up the gas and air! ;D Had to get out after about 20 mins though as my temperature went up Probably just as well, was bad enough pooing on the bed, let alone in the pool! Emmievic - glad you're getting help hun, we are here for you and understand what you're going through. xxx
