I'm being treated for both Anxiety and depression, but mainly depression. I'm now on day 4 of fluoxetine and today I'm starting to feel very anxious and worked up about all sorts of things. Firstly, from the moment I woke up this morning all I can think about it taking the next tablet, not wanting to take it, but very worked up because "I have to take it" and I'm feeling anxious at what sort of side effects they're going to have. Monday I've got to drive 300 miles from where I live to stay with my parents (that's another story), on my own with the two boys, and I'm petrified I'm going to crash or worse! I've driven this journey hundreds of times and never thought this before. And the other this is feeling very stressed that I'm never going to get better and never going to be able to come off the pills. Am I normal?

Hi kels and welcome to the site.
I have recently been diagnosed with PND but have had depression in the past too. The main part of my PND is anxiety as well - worrying about perfectly normal things, things I have done a million times before.
Just before I went on meds it got to the stage where I would stress about having friends over in case I couldn't cope, driving anywhere in case we crashed, leaving my LO with anyone else in case something happened and I wasn't there (still stress about this one to a certain extent now but not as bad as before), the list is endless.....so yes this is perfectly normal.
When I first started taking my meds I worried that the side effects would be so awful and turns out they were copable. I kept thinking that the longer I take them the better I will be so don't give up on them.
I have taken the same meds as you in the past and the only side effects I got were a few headaches, tiredness and tingly arms for a while. Some people get nothing so try not to worry, and it only lasts a couple of weeks until your body is used to it.
This site is great cos loads of people are going through the same thing and can relate to your worries, so look around. Maybe visit the diary section and think about writing stuff down regularly - sometimes helps if you don't bottle it all up....

Hi Kelly
I was prescribed fluoxetine for anxiety and unfortunately it didnt agree with me. However, I know LOADS of people who swear by it. Unfortunately one of the major side effects is increased anxiety for the first couple of weeks. I actually had to be signed off for a bit because of it. But if you hang in there, it does settle down and will be well worth it in the end!!
How you doing this evening??
WG xx

Hi
Agree with WG - it doesn't suit all, but has been fine for me. I was given diazepam for the first couple of weeks in case there was a surge of anxiety, but only resorted to it once. It takes a couple of weeks, but if it works for you, it's worth it xx
