One minute you’re happy; the next, you are sad
A few minutes later, you’re angry, then glad
In the course of an hour, you’ve laughed, yelled and cried
As the mood swings slowly toss your sense aside
Without even knowing, you’ve sent friends away
Unable to control what you do or say
Then, you sit and wonder why you’re on your own
The world seems so empty when you’re all alone.

Irrational thoughts swirl like a hurricane
You act upon feelings you cannot explain
Then, suffer the burdens that come in their wake
No power to grasp the plans you chose to make
Your heart succumbs quickly, weighted by your grief
Nothing at all seems to offer relief
Once more, you resort to crying through your dread
You close all the curtains and return to bed.

One minute you’re sitting on top of the earth
The next, you are probing for some sense of worth
You sit and are grateful for your friends who care
Then, worry you’ve become a load they must bear
The anguish you feel rips you apart, inside
Stealing your emotions; deflating your pride
The mind seems trapped inside fifty prison cells
Such is the existence where depression dwells
