I'm just wondering if anyone had a water birth.
This is my third, I'm nearly 34wks and I have SPD this time and find having a bath a real relief, which is making me consider a water birth. Its not something I would normally ever think about, I'm not keen on water but I've been warned that I may be in more pain than the other 2 coz of this.
Just looking for any thoughts or experiences anyone has
Thanks Sarah x

Hi Sarah I had a water birth with my second, Joseph. Just wanted to share with you what a wonderful experience it was. It was a midwife led, birthing centre, the midwife had aromatherapy oils burning and I had Granddaddy and Red Hot Chilli Peppers playing, it was such a chilled experience, the midwife actually said she couldnt believe I was in labour cause I was so chilled. I had gas and air whilst in the pool, also an inflatable pillow which I borrowed off my mum, just to rest on (arms or head) - would recommend this. The midwife asked if I wanted to get out to deliver but to be honest, there was no moving me once I was in there, it was quite weird when the head was out, it was just floating, apparently babies dont actually breath until they hit oxygen, so as soon as he was born and brought out of the water he took a massive breath and threw up on me - it was great, then he was straight onto the breast, i also delivered placenta in there too, easy. It was also one to one care (until delivery then another joined us). I was asked to go along to a surestart anti natal group to talk about my experience, and apparently a couple had water births after this and also had positive birth experiences, my friend's sister too asked me about it and said she was pleasede she had done this. I wanted to go back for my third (martha) but because I was on medication i was listed as high risk so had to go to the W&C hospital instead, only one birth pool, also she came very quick so didnt really have time to think, once I was on that bed, there was no moving me, lol. Anyway you dont need epic, just wanted to let you know I would definately recommend it, please let me know if you have any questions, Ill do my best to answer. Hope you're feeling ok and good luck. Lots love bean x

Waterbirth is brilliant, had mine filmed for Homebirth Diaries I had baby number 9 at home in my front room with a pool in the middle, it was amazing. I would say to anyone that if they get the chance then go for water every time. Liz x

Hi sarah
Wow hasn't the time flowen, well possibly not for you but I can still remember the suspence on here waiting for the results of your pregnancy test.
Anyway back to your question. I had my first in the birthing pool alos in a birthing centre and was really upset that my second was in to much of a hurry to have another water birth. It really is the most relaxing way of giving birth. I had no pain relief at all but as others have said you can have gas and air in there. I would definatly recomened it. Hubby wasn't keen on the idea but by the time he was born he is now recommening it to others as well.
Liz, I remember seeing yours on TV as well, thought you were mad for having the whole family there lol. You certainly gave the right impression though of how calming it is.

Hi guys
This is me just getting round to replying, terrible arent I. I'm in hosp actually so wont be a long reply using this stupid phone thing. Ultra temperamental! ave put why I'm here etc in diary take a peek if ure wondering.
After all ure stories I'm pretty keen on the idea. But has dawned on me that the epilepsy might stop me. I'm going to ask at my next community midwife app.
Going 2 look into your birth story when I get home Liz. Acess is rectricted here.
Thanks again guys xxx

Hi
All the best! I had a water birth with my second and it was far easier that with the other two especially the crowning stage.
My friend had spd and also had waterbirths and said it helped her
Wishing you loads of luck
