Hi,
I was just after some general advice. I think I may be pregnant. Period isn't due yet, but I "feel" pregnant, sore tingling breasts, weeing loads.... you get the idea.
I suffered with PNI quite badly after my last baby in 2004 and I am worried. I am happy to be having another baby, it is something me and my partner have been discussing. He is not who I was with when I was ill before, but does have expererience of PNI. We have 4 other children and life is very hectic. We have already discussed me giving up work if I am pregnant so to relieve some of the pressure and I think he is trying to be as supportive as he can.
I am already feeling wobbly, but feel I can't tell him this until we have had a positive pregnancy test. Should I see my GP as soon as I have confirmation? IS there anything they can do to reduce the risk of me becoming ill again?
I feel like I'm not getting the support I need already, can I continue if I get ill and my partner isn't supporting me?
I just need some reaasurance.

hi firstly, congratulations if you are pregnant yes i would certainly get an appt as soon as you can after the test given your previous history. you should certainly be offered a little extra tlc and support from your team under the circumstances. your partner sounds wonderful too. now go pee on that stick and come back with the news!!

The chances are you are feeling wobbly at the moment partly due to nerves of waiting to find out and what if. I would certainly get an appointment as soon as you know and like Caz said they can offer you extra tlc and make sure its on your notes so that midwives etc will be able to keep an eye on you too. I was told by my GP that is is possible to be put on anti D's IF you need to whilst pregnant.
My advice regarding hubby is to be open and honest with him. When I was pregnant with my daughter I was very anxious at the beginning almost waiting to get ill because I had been so bad with my son. Once I relized everyone was looking out for me I relaxed and didn't have any more ups and downs than a normal pregnant woman has anyway. Although my PNI did come back a while after she was born, I was given help quickly and certainly didn't suffer anywhere near as much as I did before.
Do come back and let us know the result, good luck.

I'm Pregnant!
Tested positive on Saturday.
I have been to the GP today and have been referred to the Peri Natal Team, so that takes a big weight off my mind.
Feeling a bit grotty, but that is to be expected. The baby is due 23 September 2010.
Chaos here we come!

Congratulations!!!!
And in seeing the perinatal team you have reassurance that should you need it, the support is there.
All the best over the next 9 months - and enjoy it!!
Take Care

Congratulations! Glad you have been referred to the perinatal mental health team already. You've already taken control by getting that sorting.
Good idea about giving up work whilst pregnant to reduce stress if you can afford it, or at least give up half way through or something - isn't it after 20something weeks that you can leave work and still get maternity pay even if you're not coming back.
Take care of yourself. Come on here lots as there are a few of us pni survivors pregnant again to compare notes and worries etc.

By the way, respect for the 5 kids between you and your partner - how much fun will that be as they are growing up (yes and hardwork I know, but let's face it even one is hardwork). I love the idea of a large family but don't think I could cope with that many. Hubbie and I will be lucky if we get past no. 2 who is due in June.
