I am just coming out the other side of severe pnd which I must say crept up on me and took a big chunk out of my life. I found it the cruelest illness Ive ever known and the most terrifying. It was rather like being suddenly transported onto the worlds most terrifying white knuckle rollercoaster ride, ALL ALONE! Noone around me at home really knew what on earth was going on and neither did I. What kept me going was holding on tight to the rational part of my mind, the part that said you have choices and amongst all this choas you are going to hold on tight and choose to get better. Then with all my might I strove towards that goal one little step at a time. I had to break through many emotional and physical pain barriers and make choices about treatment that I loathed. However I always thought that although the medical proffession are not perfect, they are the authority on these matters, they are trained and have dealt with countless sufferers and it would be best to go along with the treatment they recommend, a bit like accepting a plaster caste for a broken leg. I had to be very strong and swallow my pride and my medication and not be afraid of the ridicule that I could face in the future (which hasnt happened by the way) Most people are good and understanding. I am getting much, much better although Im still a little stunned by the episode obviously, and cant believe that it happened to jolly old me whose moto was always look on the bright side of life!! But there you are it happens but it ends.
