My daughter wouldn't settle in her cot last night as she has a terrible cold. I let her into my bed and she slept peacefully on my chest. That's when this poem came to me. I also remember my mother's heartbeat being a comfort to me when I was a child. Don't know if it's any good, but thought I'd share:
A MOTHER'S LULLABY
The baby sleeps on his mother's chest,
Her heartbeat playing like a lullaby in his ears,
The ticking of life providing safety, security, love for her son,
The comfort of a mother's lullaby sends the baby dreaming,
Sweet dreams of his mother's gentle touch,
His mother's smile sends warmth through his heart,
The baby sleeps peacefully as his own lullaby plays,
A happy beat- the rhythm of his heart.
