Hi! I am new to this board and am not really sure what to write. I have two children and feel so afraid. I feel like my children would be better off with someone else, another mum, that I just am not up to the task of leading my children through life. That I cannot protect them from all the hurt in the world. I was sexually abused as a child and I am so paranoid about anything like that happening to my children, not only that they might be abused but that they might become abusers (they are two boys). They're both under six so I realise that it's silly to feel like this but I feel so helpless. Does everyone feel that motherhood is so difficult? Nobody prepares you for the lack of self-esteem and feeling of awkwardness and uselessness that accompanies having children. Why don't people talk about this? I feel it especially hard because I have no close married friends to talk to about it. But I'm not sure many women do. Ah! Please tell me I'm not mad.

Hi and glad you've found us. Sure you'll find lots of support and help on here.
Firstly YOU ARE NOT MAD, as hopeful says you're just normal (I'm sure we all feel we've lost it sometimes or even most times) worrying does seem to be a huge part of parenting and is definitely heightened by PNI!
I just wanted to pick up on " ... it's silly to feel like this but I feel so helpless" feelings aren't silly, they're a reflection of how you are emotionally, please don't try and beat yourself up about how you feel, just work with it where possible, I know this is much easier to say than to do but it really helps if you can.
Please let us know how you're doing, good to have you with us x
